Where the Lines Overlap
Song/Lyric Interpretations:
(1) I think this song is about life on the road. It seems like they're saying it's bitter sweet to be gone from home, but this is what they've always wanted. "No one is as lucky as us" is saying that they feel like they're on top of the world and they're having the time of their lives. "Chasing patterns across a personal map; And making pictures where the lines overlap" This sounds like when they're on tour they're all over the world (map) touring. While they're out on tour they're out making memories to last them a life time (pictures).
(2) Whenever I hear this song, it constantly reminds me of having a long roadtrip through life with friends, and making memories out of it. This also makes me feel that every single one of us is lucky to be taking the long road in life. No one is as lucky as us.
(3) You can look at this song from a love perspective I suppose, but I think her personal intentions were about the band and the fact that even though they've argued and stuff, they still know that they're living the life.
(4) This song to me sounds like she wants to highlight the growing distance between them. When the chorus hits, the writer is so.. relieved? Implying that it's a stroke of luck that they stick together, and actually made it to where they are now. To put it plainly, it's like, 'whoa, we actually stayed together and and guess what, we've won the battle!'
The line 'I've got a feeling if I sang this loud enough, you would sing it back to me' is directed to fans, maybe an invite to celebrate the victory they gained by way of opening up, to be say what needs to be said, and just to let it go, and hoping we can get what they have now by doing the same.
(5) This song is about dealing with a long distance relationship as stated by Hayley in her lyric journal.
"This song is about long-distance relationships in a positive outlook. Josh & I wrote this the same day we recorded it at Rob's. So much fun, this song will always bring the good vibes."
"Give me attention
I need it now
Too much distance
To measure it out, out loud"
Here comes the uncertainty.
"Tracing patterns
Across a personal map
And making pictures
Where the lines overlap"
Figuring it out. Lines overlapping is a metaphor for the intersection representing the start of their relationship. The relationship doesn't end at the intersection, but rather continues as distance between them grows.
