"That's nice." I said. "Anyway... what are we doing all day long?"
"Well, anyone who needs to do work will be able to do it, but other than that just chill and talk."
"Can't wait." I muttered in fake enthusiasm as we entered the vast conference room.
The fireplace was on, and so was the heater since it was freezing cold.
I spotted Keefe sitting on the couch in the corner of the room. A couple yards away from the room was a conference table and a TV, which was above the fireplace.
Keefe was on his phone, scrolling through whatever it was when he noticed Mark and I. He half smirked, half-smiled as we walked towards us.
"Hey." I greeted, walking and dropping on one of the conference chairs next to a girl named Mia. She was a senior consultant and worked for the Financial Department.
A chorus of 'hey', 'hi', 'morning', and 'hey Sophie' vibrated across the room as people kept busy on their paperwork, phones, and laptops.
A particular voice stood out from the rest. "How are you doing on this fine Tuesday morning, Lady Foster?"
Guess who?
"Hm." I simply hummed, turning around, opening my laptop and began typing an email to our latest buyer.
"I'm bored." He said, closing my laptop as I began to type the email.
I rolled my eyes and re-opened my laptop. "Nice to meet you. I'm Sophie."
"Ugh." He said defeatedly.
Wow... he backed away way faster than I thought he would.
After 3 hours of consecutive typing, scrolling, searching, calling, printing, writing, filling in paperwork, and signing deals, I was done with my work. Not too much to do today.
When you work for so long in one spot without moving, you tend to get tired. That's what I felt like right not, so I stretched in my seat. While I did this, from the corner of eyes, I could see some people still working. But that's not what caught my eyes. What caught my eyes was Keefe and a girl talking.
She must've been a new intern because she looked around our age. I've never seen her around.
Keefe must have said something funny because the girl started laughing and playfully slapped Keefe's arm. Keefe smiled and said something else.
Something flared inside of me. Was it jealousy? Psh... why would I be jealous of them? It's not like I was into Keefe.
I still couldn't ignore the pit in my stomach. I ignored it and walked to Mark who was finished with his work and was scrolling on his phone, sipping water and eating Doritos.
"Hey." I said dropping onto the chair next to him and putting both of my legs on his lap.
"Hm." He acknowledged, super focused on his phone.
"Whatcha doing?"
"Call of Duty. Almost done, one sec." After a moment, he put his phone down. "What's up?"
"I have question."
"Ask away."
"Who's that girl over there?" I said, signaling my eyes to her.
"She's my cousin, Liana. She recently moved to Manhattan and applied for NYREA. She got the job as an intern since she's still in high school. I think she's going to the same one as you guys. Don't know." He spoke.
"Oh, I didn't know that." I simply said, pulling my own phone out. A couple minutes later I heard Mike, a weirdly well-built guy who worked as a foreclosure specialist.
"FOOD'S HERE!" He shouted in his gruff voice.
Those two words made everyone's eyes snap to the stacks of turkey mayo, cheese, and PBJ sandwiches, water bottles, juice boxes, and sparkling water bottles. There were a couple hundred packs of chips too and some grilled chicken from the employee party we had a couple days ago.
Not gonna lie, this was pretty good food to have when you're stranded in a meeting.
The food was placed on the center of the conference table as everyone began to help themselves. I snatched a pack of chips, a water bottle, and a PBJ sandwich. Sue me, I'm boring.
I was about to sit down at a random spot when I heard Keefe say, "Over here, Foster."
I smiled in spite of myself and sat down next to Keefe. "Hey." I greeted.
"Hm." He hummed like I had done earlier.
"Look... I'm sorry. I was being grouchier than usual, and I should have hung out with you. What can I do to make it up to you?" I said, turning to him.
A ghost of a smile appeared on his lips as his eyebrows arched in amusement. "You'll do anything?" He confirmed.
I sighed, realizing my mistake. But there was nothing I could do to take it back, so I slowly nodded.
Keefe squealed like a little girl. "I'm coming to your apartment tomorrow at 10pm. Be ready."
I narrowed my eyes. "Where are we going?"
"You ever been clubbing?" He asked.
"Psh... uh... no." I admitted.
"Well, Foster, tomorrow will be the first of many."
I rolled my eyes and took a potato chip from the bag. "Can't wait." I said with fake enthusiasm.
In the matter of hours, I was in my bed and setting an alarm for tomorrow, finding myself thinking about tomorrow. Right before I went to bed, I texted Biana and Jolie.
Me: I need a party outfit.
Jolie: On it.
Biana: What time?
Me: Tmrw around 9ish pm?
Jolie: Works for me. I'll bring the makeup.
Biana: We wear the same size, so I'm on dress duty.
Me: Luv you guyssss.
Biana: 😘😘
Jolie: Night sis ❤️
As soon as I hit the pillow, I fell asleep in a couple of minutes because of all of today's events. Cross my fingers that everything goes will tommorow.
