An unexpected return

Chapter 1

Stern was a dark, gloomy and desolate kingdom after the fall of its ruler, King Roland. Under the rule of King George the people had given up all hope of the kingdom returning to its former glory where everyone was happy.

A few years earlier, Stern had been attacked by the soldiers of Fyn. Taken by surprise, the soldiers of Stern did everything they could to protect the kingdom. The army fought valiantly but lost the battle, when their King was killed when he drank poisoned wine. Stern was captured and ruled by King George. A ruthless man, king George who did not hesitate to kill anyone who steeped a toe out of the line.

It was a shock to him what had become of Stern after his so-called death. He hadn't actually died; he was saved by his queen, a powerful healer, a few minutes before it was impossible to live on.

Roland sat on the hard bed missing the luxuries that came with being the King. There was no need to worry though, as he would soon regain all that he had lost. Today was the day he would reclaim his kingdom.

The plan was to use George's own trick against him with a small twist. He did not want to kill him with any form of painful death. He was far too compassionate to see that happen. Roland would disguise himself as a servant who served the King his meals. He would then give the wine to him who would drink it and then die. Of course there could be a few problems along the way, like if he was recognized or someone else dined with the King. But he would deal with them as they came. But he had to make it work, this was his only chance.

As he turned his back on the man who collapsed to the ground he thought about all that he would do to fix the problems created by the war. He embraced his family and listened as his people cheered for the unexpected return of their King and their hope
