Chapter 1: Falling...in Love?

"Three, two, one! Ready or not here I come!" Childe playfully lowered his hands away from his eyes. It was a quiet afternoon in Liyue and you and Childe had both decided to head to the city outskirts for some down time, which of course ended in a game of hide and seek taking place. Childe was the seeker, making you the hider and you were VERY good at hiding. Hearing the crunching of his boots along the forest floor, you muffled your giggles trying to make their way out of your lips. High in the tree you balanced yourself, you did not feel like falling from that kind of hight. You spotted Childe's red hair from below among the greenery of the shrubs and different plants. He did not spot you up in the tree as he drew near and you mentally took a breath of relief. Suddenly in the moment you sneezed, causing you to topple over the branch you were earlier safely sitting on, soaring headfirst towards the ground. A high pitched scream escaped from your throat and you closed your eyes waiting for the impact...but it never came. You slowly opened your eyes to realize you were now safely in Childe's warm embrace, he had caught you seconds before falling. Tears prickled at the corners of your eyes and you realized it would have ended up a disaster if he had not been there. Childe did not look happy about it either. "Y/N." he said sternly "I told you hiding in trees are off limits for this exact reason!" He let out a huff. It was true, when discussing the rules he had said not to hide in any trees or high places so there were no arguments there. You felt bad, if it was scary for you it must have been scary for him. "I'm sorry Childe, I shouldn't have done that." You said apologetically. You both looked each other in the eyes for a moment, like there was nothing else in the world to look at. His face drew closer to yours as you kept eye contact with him, unable to look away. Realizing how close the two of you were, you started to blush. Childe noticed and stopped himself quickly, setting you down and walking ahead. "It's ok, just please don't do that again, there's nothing I would hate more than seeing you get hurt." Hearing that from him made you feel warm inside. You ran to catch up to him and the two of you walked side by side, back towards Liyue Harbour. "I have some work to do, so I unfortunately have to leave you now." He turned to you, saying goodbye "Okay, thank you so much for hanging out with me, we should do it again soon." You smiled warmly at him. He smiled back although it didn't quite reach his eyes. You both went your separate ways, you towards the market and Childe towards the Golden House. Little did you know, neither of you would be able to hang out anytime soon...if ever again.
