Dark Angel

Prologue

I let out a relaxed sigh as I leaned back in the bright green grass and let the sun's bright rays warm my face. It had been a while since I was able to relax without having some kind of responsibility to do for my kingdom and I was going to make the most of it.
I was on the brink of sleep when I hear the light crunch of the grass above me. "Nyla...what are you doing out here" I hear my mom ask as she sits down beside me.
"It's a nice day Mother"
"Yes well...your father wants everyone to go inside"
"Why?" I ask finally sitting up. I notice her wearing her white battle suit and her pale white wings were drooping. But the most important thing I noticed was her worried expression. "Mom...what's happening?"
"Ah...well" The floor starts to shake vigorously cutting her off. My mom quickly stand up and looked off into the distance. I looked out and saw a tall cloud of dark fog start to form in the distance.
"What the hell is that?!" I ask as it slowly rolls into the kingdom. I heard the faint sounds of the citizens screaming as the fog took over.
"The darkness.." My mom mumbles before dragging me towards the entrance of the palace.
"Mom. Mom. Mom!" I yell at her before yanking my arm away from her and completely stopping.
"What darkness Mom?!"
"Hunny we can't stop we have to get to the castle"
"But why? And what is that huge cloud? And-"
"Nyla! We don't have time the second that cloud touches us we die. Now let's move"
I look back and see the fog was not that far away. Then I turn to look at my mom and the castle. "Ok" I start running toward the palace.
I was moving so fast I didn't realize that my mom had disappeared from my side. "We're almost there keep going!" I hear my mom yell from behind me. I turn around for a split second and see the darkness wrapped around her waist pulling her up from the ground.
"MOM!"
"Keep going.." She says weakly. I stop and watch as the clouds sucked the soul from her then throw her lifeless body to the ground. Tears fall from my face and I feel my knees turn to Jello. In the minute I stood there frozen in fear, the fog wrapped it grip around my waist and pulled me up. I felt as the darkness absorbed into my body causing me to see purple color energy fly around my fingertips. After these hallucinations, or what I thought were hallucinations, I knew I was close to death.
I was ready to accept my fate when I see an arrow being shot up. I hear a loud screech before I was finally released from the darkness's firm grip.
"Oh my god.." I breath out as I land on the floor. I look to see who shot the arrow and see the kingdom's enchantress standing there.
"Come one we need to move before I comes to its senses again"
I nod and follow her without looking back at my mom's dead body.

We had finally made it to the castle, but it wasn't like how it was when I left. It was completely destroyed.
"If you don't mind my asking but what the hell is that thing!" I finally say after I caught my breath. The enchantress does nothing but look at me.
"No one knows. Not even me. Now let's keep moving we have to get you to safety, your are all that's left of the royal family"
"W-what...dad's dead..." I ask.
"Sadly, he was killing the same way as your mother"
I could feel the tears form in my eyes. "Well what about everyone else?"
"Will be dead soon. Which is why we need to get you to planet 524"
"Earth? Why Earth?"
"Would you stop asking so many freaking questions!" She says. I instantly shut my mouth as she lead me through the ruble and into the sacred portal room. As the enchantress set up her spell book I noticed my changed features in the mirror. My curly brown hair and my beautiful white wings turn to a jet black color and my eyes were now purple. "What's happened to me.." I say to myself as I ran a shaky hand over my brown skin. I turn back to the enchantress and watch as she uses her magic to form a white portal in the middle of the room.
"There..walk through there and try not to draw attention to yourself"
I take a deep breath before nodding and walking up to the portal.
"Oh and Nyla, be careful ok?"
I smile weakly at her before walking through the portal.

As soon as I stepped in, I was instantly teleported somewhere on Earth very high in the sky. I was there for a few seconds before I started plummeting to the ground and fast. My entire body became numb and I couldn't feel my wings. I slowly watch as the ground became closer and closer and as I slowly slipped in and out of consciousness. Just before I fully passed out I felt a strong arm wrap around my waist and save me at the last minute.
