"I need a table for two, NOW!" The Jonkler calls out into the diner. His assertive attitude has my heart singing. He's the only man who would disrespect underpaid staff for me.
A short woman in an apron rushes over.
"We've cleared table three for you Mr. Jonkler." She managed to stutter. The tray she has in her hands shakes as we push past her.
The Jonkler effortlessly slides into the booth of table three. I stumble while climbing into the booth across from him. He chuckles at my blunder. I flash a playful grin at him.
At that moment I notice how quiet the diner is. I turn towards the other tables and see that they're completely empty. The only people in the building are the staff, me and... The Jonkler.
"How did you get a completely empty diner for our first date?"
"I'd do anything for you sweetheart." He says, emphasizing the comment with a wink. I blush profusely, covering my face with my hands.
In the midst of my embarrassment, The Jonkler calls out to the staff.
"We're ready to order. NOW!"
A different waiter frantically runs over to our table.
"What would you like to order Mr. Jonkler, sir?" the skittish waiter asks.
"One milkshake..." He glances at me. " with two straws."
My face reddens again, but I hold his gaze. He smirks at me before speaking again.
"And one order of fries."
I gasp in disbelief. How could I be so foolish, this was all too good to be true. Of course he would be testing me. My palms began sweating against my bare legs.
"My dear, do you remember the day I asked you on this date?" The Jonkler asked with a sly smile.
Of course I do. I was on a date with another guy. I didn't really know him all that well, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. Eventually, I gave in and let him take me out.
He took me to a skate park. I've never been on a skateboard in my life. He just wanted to show off his kick-flips or something. He wouldn't stop talking about boring movies I didn't care about. He also smelled like musty clothes and body odor.
Needless to say, it was a shit date. Just as he got back on his skateboard, I noticed him.
"I remember."
"Do you know why I came up to you?" The Jonkler asked.
A sweat bead rolls down my neck.
"No. Why did you?"
"It was because I saw something in you. That look in your eyes. From the moment I saw you, I knew you were twisted."
In that moment, the waiter placed our milkshake between us.
"And who are the fries for?" asks the waiter.
"I believe those are yours, aren't they my dear?"
"Y-yes, those are mine." I manage to push out.
His eyes look me up and down. His gaze is so strong.
"Now, why don't you show me how twisted you truly are. Dip those fries in the milkshake!"
For the first time tonight, The Jonkler's composure began to slip. His deranged excitement is intoxicating. It fills me with anticipation.
I reach towards the fries and pull one from the basket. The Jonkler's smile grows larger and more crazed the closer my fry gets to the milkshake. I slowly begin its decent into the sweet beverage. I finally make contact, emerging the salted potato in the thick liquid.
"YES! YES! I knew you were truly twisted! Twisted enough to dip your fries in your milkshake."
I chuckle to myself, impressed by my willpower. I guess I really am twisted.
"I'm so pleased my dear. You know I can only be with someone sick and twisted."
"Of course, you deserve someone who understands you." I respond sincerely.
"And now we celebrate! To being twisted!" The Jonkler holds out his own fry dipped in milkshake.
I immediately become tense. How could I forget the hardest part? Eating the milkshake fry! I bring the fry to my mouth. My mind is swimming with thoughts of how twisted it will be to taste. The combination of sweet milkshake and salty fry will create the most demented taste. In the moment I'm about to bite down, I call out in defeat.
"I can't do it! I can't! It's too twisted! I'm sorry Jonkler... I guess I'm not the one for you."
"My love, you have already passed the test. You were twisted enough to dip fries in your milkshake, but only I am twisted enough to actually eat them."
I sigh in awe.
"You really are amazing Jonkler."
"I know..."
The rest of our evening is incredibly romantic. I watch him eat his dipped fries, impressed with every bite. He then takes me for a truly twisted drive in his purple sport car.
Eventually, our evening comes to an end.
"I had an amazing night tonight." I exclaim.
"I'm glad. I hope it was truly twisted."
"It was... thank you."
I stand up on my toes and lean in for the kiss. The Jonkler pulls me in the rest of the way. My heart swirls with love and madness.
I pull away, blushing lightly.
"Goodnight, my love." says The Jonkler
"Goodnight."
