To be the main character, you don't have to believe that you are special, most of them don't even realize it. Most of them have so many struggles and obstacles to leap over they never can seem to catch their breath. Therefore as I sit on my bed reading "Pride and Prejudice" for the fifth time, I am blatantly reminded of my simple life. The only person in my life that ever made me feel quote on quote "special" was my mom, and now she's gone too.
How can someone ever be happy after losing such an important person in your life? Dimitry, my best friend said, "The pain never stops, you just learn to live with it and get stronger because of it." My chest filled with hope the moment he told me, but five minutes later I already felt the weight returning to my chest. I take a deep breath, flip my book over and place it on the bed beside me.
Staring up at the blank white ceiling above me, I close my eyes and take another breath and throw my legs over the side of my bed.
My father sent me a plane ticket, dating tomorrow morning. I have to pack up the remainder of my life and move across the world. I have spent the past 15 years here in San Fransico, now I'm expected to drop everything, in the middle of my final year and move across the world.
My mother Iris and my father Melo are the most complicated people I've ever met. Mom and Melo got married when they were just 20 years old, in love and ready to take on the world together.
Well let's just say, that crashed and burned.
They haven't even spoken in 15 years. The moment we left Melo's large Castle in Ireland marked the moment where he went from Dad to the guy who sent me birthday cards, with a large sum of money that arrived a week late.
I now have to go live with a man who I hardly know, and the most we share in common is the brown hair and green eyes that mark both of our faces.
I get off my bed, slink over to my closet and start pushing heaps of clothes into my brand new suitcase, not bothering to fold them. I grab a few of everything, not worried about missing anything. It's hard to care about making a good impression when you don't care for the response. It's hard to care at all when the most important person in your life is no longer there.
I grab the framed picture of my mother and let out a deep shaky sigh as I placed it inside the case.
Knowing that I need to go to sleep early tonight, I grab my pyjamas and slide my slipper-clad feet over toward the shower. Going through the motions, I relish in the warmth the water provides me. I block all my thoughts and just try to think about each water drop hitting my body, allowing it to calm my nerves just a little. I shut off the shower and ring out my hair, I grab the towel off the hook and wrap it around my body, not looking down.
The steamed mirror acts as the protection I needed. I know that I don't look well, I've barely eaten since I got the news, I've been living life on autopilot for the past week. Never allowing myself to get too deep enough in my head to stir up trouble.
I think one of the hardest parts is that I don't even understand how it happened. I have so many questions floating around my head, but I don't allow myself to go there. Right now I need sleep, the dreams that plague my sleep never grant me true rest.
Pulling back my covers, I slip inside the cool sheets, closing my eyes and letting sleep take over my restless mind.
