*FlashBack*

I could hear voices around me but I couldn't make out who they were. My head was pounding, and I couldn't remember why. I open my eyes, to see Jacob sitting on the edge of the extremely uncomfortable  hospital bed that I was lying on. His normally smiling face full of worry.

"Your awake." Jacob said, his worried look easing a little, although he still looked like a frightened little child

"Wha- what happened?" I stuttered, slightly confused. My head was still hurting, making it hard to speak.

"There was an accident, you fainted." He answered softly and simply, his eyes full of sadness.

Then it all came flooding back like a tsunami. The fire. The body bags. My parents. And Mia, Wait! Mia.

"Where's Mia!" I squeaked once I realized that she was still alive, or at least she was when the police officer was speaking to Jacob and I.

"She's in the room next door. She has been awake but she's sleeping at the moment. The doctors said that she's still in a critical condition and not to get our hopes up."

"Does she know?"  I couldn't help but let the tears that were building up fall. Knowing that my parents are gone is one thing but knowing that my sister, my best friend may not make it either was too much.

"Yes." Jacob replied pulling me into a tight hug. It was nice to know that he was here.

"Can I go see her?" I replied when I had calmed down abit.

"Not yet. The doctor said that we need to let her rest. Its her best chance to recover" He stated, tears forming in his eyes now as well.

"Ok." I replied, yawning. I wanted to ask what was wrong with her but I knew that Jacob wouldn't want to talk about it. I could already see how cut up he was about everything, even though he was trying so hard not to show it.

"You look tired Ame." Jacob said so softly that it was almost a whisper "You should get some rest. I'll come and wake you when she is ready for visiters."

I nodded in response and closed my eyes. Within seconds I fell  into a dreamless sleep.

" Ameka, She's awake." I heard Jacob's soft voice pulling me from my nap.

When my eyes adjusted I was greeted by his soft green eyes staring down at me.

"Hi." I responded when i found my voice.

"She's awake" Jake said again, incase i hadn't heard him. "And she's asking for you." he added as i started to sit up in the bed. My head was still hurting a little but nowhere near as bad as before.

I nodded in reply and looked around the room. I then had another realization... Where was Anthony?

"Hey Jake, where's Ant?" I asked curiously.

"He's with my parents. I called them as soon as you were brought to hospital and they jumped on the first flight."  He replied expressionless.

Jacobs parents were really lovely. They lived in a small town about five hours away from Lynchfeild (where we are).

"How did they get here so fast?" I asked slightly confused.

"You were out of it for eight hours Ame." Jacob answered. He then stood up,and after helping me onto my feet he led my out of my room and into Mia's room next door. Once I was in the room I noticed that  Jacob hadn't followed. I figured he must have wanted to give us some privacy so i just shrugged it off and turned towards Mia.

"Ameka." I heard Mia say tearfully as I walked over to her bed as fast as I could.

"I'm here. It's going to be ok." I tried to reassure her even though it was obvious I was trying to keep my own  tears from falling.

"Ame, I'm sorry." Mia said quietly looking straight into my eyes. Although I took after my father with my vibrant blue eyes and blonde hair, Mia was just like my mum. She had the most amazing brown eyes I had ever seen, and her hair was a light brown colour.

"Why? Mia, You have nothing to be sorry about" I tried to reassurre her although I could see it wasn't working.

"My kidneys are failing. And only one of my lungs is working. I don't know how much longer I will be around." she replied hesitantly.

"Don't you dare say stuff like that!" I replied a little too harshly. How could she be thinking about that! I need her.

"Ameka honey, can you please promise me one thing?" she asked, ignoring my previous comment.

"Of course, you know I'd do anything for you." I said without hesitation. The truth was I would do anything for her, no matter what the consequences.

"Please help Jacob take care of Ant ." She said softly  Then the door to her room opened and the doctor came in.

"I'm sorry but I'm going to have to ask you to leave." he said and then stood out of the way while I gave Mia a hug.

"I love you." she said tearfully as I walked to the door.

Turning around I said "I love you too" and then walked out the door and back to my room.

When I reached my room I laid down on the bed and cried. I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I knew Jacob was back in my room sitting on the edge of my bed with tears in his eyes.

"Jacob what's wrong?" I asked whilst sitting up.

Jacob didn't answer. Instead he just looked up at me and shook his head before pulling me into a bone-crushing hug. And so with that I knew what it was.... Mia was gone.

I sat on Jacob's sofa in a daze. I still could not believe that my parents and sister were gone.

As I was still only seventeen and I had no other family, Jacob was now my legal guardian along with his parents. Jacob decided that it would be better for all of us if we moved from my beloved city of Lychfeild to a small town a few hours away where his parents lived.

"Ame, Pastor Philiphs is here." Jacob called from the kitchen. We were meeting Pastor Philiphs who was the pastor from our local church to arrange a funeral for my family. I got up slowly, not wanting to have to do it.

Just then Jacob came in. "Ame, as hard as it is, this has to be done." he said, walking over and pulling me into a hug.

After a few seconds he broke away and grabbed my hand. Slowly we walked into the kitchen.

"Hello Ameka." Pastor Phillips said. "I'm very sorry for your loss."

"Thank you, please have a seat." I replied. And with that we started planning my family's funeral.
