"Y/N can I see you in my office for a second?" Max, her manager, asked peeking around the corner.
Y/N has been working at a coffee shop for three years to get money to pay off her college debt. Even though she didn't make much she was making at least something, she was previously kicked out of her apartment because she couldn't afford rent so she moved back into her moms place. Her mother wasn't that wealthy either but her father, well that is a different story. He was wealthy, not too rich but just enough to where you didn't have to worry about if the next paycheck came late. However, her father never offered once to help with her tuition, he said that 'scraping for money helps build character.' Sure it did, if the character was a 24 year old, underpaid barista, that worked with bimbos from 6am to 4pm. Then yes it definitely builds character.
"So what's up? Is everything okay?" Y/N asked taking a seat in the chair in front of Max's desk.
"Actually no. I really hate that I have to do this but...we're going to have to let you go." He sighed looking at her.
She furrowed her brows and tilted her head.
"What?"
"Well the company is losing money instead of gaining, so we have to make cuts. Unfortunately you're one of those, I'm sorry."
"Are you kidding me?" She chuckles and straightens in her seat.
"Max come on! I've been the most reliable one here, the only reason you're not making money is because the other girls give shit away for free to hot guys! I'm the only one who is actually doing their job right!"
He leaned back and crossed his arms.
"Look Y/N I get it, I do. But what's done is done. You're fired."
"But-"
"MAX WE NEED YOU UP HERE!!" One of the girls from the front shouted.
"I'll be right there!!" He looks back at Y/N and stood up.
"You can come get your final paycheck tomorrow afternoon. I am sorry." He walked out leaving her frustrated.
Y/N huffs out a breath and rubs her face with her hands, pushing away the hair in her face as she leans forward. She gets up and grabs her coat by the front door, finally walking out of the shop. It was around 10pm so the streets were somewhat empty and the roads were lit up with lamps. As she walked back to her place she passed an ally, a persons voice being heard within the ally, made her stop and go back to peek at who it was.
"Hello?" She calls out trying to see into the darkness. With no reply she begins to back away and leave until she hears another sound, a clinking sound.
"Who's there?" She slowly creeped into the narrow walkway.
"Helloooo?" She kept waking until she saw a a glowing light at the end. Being curious she got closer to it.
She stood in front of the glowing light and bent down to get a better look at it.
"What the hell?" She whispered as she reached out and touched the light.
"Shit!" An electrical zap made her jump and back away, her finger started to tingle but that soon went away being replaced with something else. Dizziness. She shook her head trying to get rid of the light headed feeling she had, stumbling in the ally. Getting closer to the exit of the darkness she saw someone walking towards her.
"Who...are...you?" Was the last thing she said before she crashed and went unconscious.
