As I already said, I am Zhenya and I know a lot about spiders, and especially about tarantulas. Since I want myself a spider. Well, duck, listen. Spiders can be said to be matriarch.
(I'm talking about tarantulas) I'll explain everything now
1.Females live 5-25 years, and males 1-5 years.
2.Females kill males
3.From the very beginning, the male will live less
The character of the female is the same as that of her father.
Spiders don't eat often. Once a month, but before molting, spiders may not eat even longer. After molting, the tarantulas are helpless and in the wild they can be easily attacked by a predator.
All species of tarantulas are poisonous to one degree or another; if we are talking about non-venomous species, then this implies a relatively low degree of toxicity of the poison. A tarantula bite is not fatal for a healthy adult, but extremely unpleasant (acute pain, fever, delirium, muscle cramps, etc.). There are no confirmed deaths from a tarantula bite, but amateur spiders have noted cases of cats dying from their pet bites. In light of this, spiders should be considered deadly for young children or people who have an increased sensitivity to this poison - the presence of an allergy to the toxin. When bitten, the poison is not injected in all cases, often a "dry" bite occurs.
In recent years, it has become popular to keep poultry eaters at home as exotic pets. Some of the bird-eaters are caught for these purposes in nature, but most are successfully bred in captivity. Spiders are becoming popular due to the relative unpretentiousness and simplicity of maintenance [source not specified 3016 days], as well as very affordable prices for feed and the spiders themselves (especially spider larvae)[17].
Almost all the information about the biology of bird-eaters known to us today is obtained as a result of studying those spiders that were kept in captivity, and only a small part of it is based on observations directly in their habitats.[1]
Terrarium Edit
The use of both too cramped and too spacious terrariums is highly undesirable. Each spider should be kept in a separate container, as the risk of cannibalism is high. An exception can be made only for nymph spiders, as well as for bird-eating pairs during mating and a small number of "social" species. In most cases, coconut substrate (crushed coconut bark) or expanded vermiculite is used as the soil of the terrarium. A burrowing spider requires a deep layer of substrate, since this type spends most of the time underground, but in this case you will rarely see a spider. There is an alternative option. It is possible to fill the terrarium with a not so thick layer of substrate, but it is necessary to provide a shelter for the spider, for example, half of a flower pot, but in this case the spider will not feel normal, and because of this, outbreaks of aggression are possible, due to fear and lack of natural shelter. The woody species requires the presence of a snag or a piece of bark as a shelter. Spiders easily move up the glass, for this reason the terrarium must have a lid.
The main species bred to feed spiders are cockroaches of various species (the most famous are the marble cockroach and Blaberus craniifer), zophobas larvae, crickets and mealworm. The possibility of feeding poultry eaters with frozen meat or some other food familiar to humans is often discussed, but this is extremely undesirable and in most cases can cause the death of spiders. The body length of the feeding object should be slightly less than (or equal to) the body length of the spider (from chelicerae to spider warts). If there are no feeding objects of the required size, the bird-eaters can be fed with insect parts. It is advisable to use feed available to poultry eaters in their natural habitat, otherwise food refusals are possible. Thus, arboreal species prefer flies and crickets, often ignoring cockroaches and other terrestrial insects
The largest is considered to be Theraphosa blondi, reaching up to 28 cm in leg span (Guinness Book of Records). According to unconfirmed data, individuals of some species, in particular Theraphosa apophysis, can also reach similar sizes or more.
Spiders can refuse food for up to 2 years for no apparent reason[18].
All bird-eaters weave a web. Woody species use cobwebs to build shelters (such as a "hammock"), terrestrial ones - to strengthen the soil. Also for other purposes: weaving a cocoon for eggs, a "mat" before molting, etc.), however, the use of webs in bird-eating spiders, in particular, as well as migalomorphic (Mygalomorphae) spiders in general, is evolutionarily primitive and not developed to the extent that in evolutionarily more advanced araneomorphic spiders (Araneomorphae).
Bird eaters are used to treat arachnophobia.
Spiders of some species dive underwater[5]
