After several debates with yourself, you decided that it was time to finally talk to him, and you gathered all the courage and knocked on his office door. You could hear some shuffling and talking inside until it all went quiet and the door opened, revealing a blond man glaring at you.
"Y/N," Bucky cheered from inside, standing up from his chair to greet you. He was clearly not expecting you and in haste he didn't do a good job of hiding his surprise. "Come on in! This is Steve," he pointed at the tall blond man who didn't like being near you. Bucky cleared his throat before turning towards his friend and saying, "This is Y/N."
"So I've heard," Steve replied nonchalantly. "I'm gonna go, Buck. See you later."
Steve left without even sparing another glance towards you. Someone is cocky and rude, you thought.
"That wasn't personal," James told you. "He's just mad at me."
"That did feel personal, though."
James shrugged a shoulder, giving you a tight-lipped smile, and raised his hand in front of the chair for you to take it. "So, what brings you here?"
"I've been a bitch to you since we came back and I just want to apologize because -"
"I like you," James blurted out and both of your eyes widened, he didn't expect himself to say it like that. But again, you had some magical effect on him that he couldn't explain, proving his theory further that you were, in fact, some sort of enchantress or a witch.
He signed, "I like you, Y/N. And I know it's not conventional, but I would like to take you out on a date. Of course, if you will let me."
You smiled and said, "Only if we go to Barry's."

If you thought your previous encounters with James were awkward, then this date was nothing compared to that. Both of you kept glancing at the other, drinking your shakes without saying a word.
"How's Carol and the kids?" he finally broke the deafening silence.
"Good," you answered, "Alec and Izzy really miss you."
He smiled and nodded. And you were back at square one with the uneasy silence. You kept thinking, where did it go wrong? Everything with him felt out of sync. First, he saves you from being assaulted and holds you when you have a breakdown. Then you have an amazing meal in a diner and lastly, you pretend date for a weekend and end up making out by the end. James was right, nothing about you was conventional, and maybe that is why you both were sitting silently. It wasn't like you didn't like him, your whole timing with him had been wrong since day one. As much as you hated to accept it, this was it.
You weren't going on another date or even talk to one another after this. This was a bad date, probably the worst of your life.
"Did I do something wrong?" James asked, and your confusion must've been clear on your face because he exhaled and continued, "Things were fine with us, even good and that kiss - That kiss was wonderful, but then we came back and you just started ignoring me."
"I got scared," you admitted, "Because I thought I was reading too much into that weekend and us. And I thought that you didn't like me, so I told you that the kiss didn't mean anything. I told myself that it was better to leave than be left."
He smiled at the last sentence, "You gotta leave before you get left."
You laughed in an embarrassing way that would make you cringe when you looked back at your day at night, but James didn't mind that, "Did you just quote Taylor Swift's song - I did something bad?"
He chuckled, shrugging his shoulders in an obvious manner. "It was right there."
Yeah, you were in love with this man.
You signed, finally addressing the elephant in the room. "But this date just proved that we are not compatible."
Bucky looked at his feet, you were standing outside your apartment. This was it. This was the last time he was dropping you home, this was the last time you would see him in your house and even though he was so different, he didn't feel out of place at your home. "Yeah, this wasn't a great first date."
"It was horrible if you asked me," you joked, but you were serious.
He smiled sadly and nodded his head, "I know."
"So, this is it?" you said, but it came out as a question.
He looked around, memorizing your home and you in it. His eyes lingered on your face a bit longer, retaining your features to his memory. As much as he wanted you, he couldn't have you. The rat is always stuck in the cage and never gets the cheese, Bucky concluded.
"Fuck it," you whispered before bringing Bucky's face in your hands and crashing your lips with his. Bucky groaned and wrapped his arms around you, pressing your body against his, and kissed you back with more passion.
Instinctively, your feet started moving towards the bedroom, tugging him with you, Bucky yanked the door close with his foot before giving you and your body his everything.
"I usually don't do this," you murmured against his lips. "Especially not after bad first dates."
"Are you sure?" Bucky asked, gently placing you on your bed.
"Yes." You answered when your back hit the soft mattress. Bucky didn't waste another second before engulfing your body against his and kissing you chastely. His hands roamed around your curves, and he bit your lower lip, making you moan and giving him more access to your mouth. You whined when his mouth left yours and trailed along your jaw before reaching its destination on your clavicle and sucking hardly, but not harsh enough to hurt you.
Your body was encased in his as he thrusted in and out of you with a pace that had you writhing in pleasure under him. You both reached your high together and rode down the euphoria together, too. Panting breathlessly, you settled on his chest after coming down from the immense bliss.
Bucky enveloped his arm around you and kissed the top of your head before whispering, "This was one hell of a first date."
"The best one ever." you smiled and agreed before succumbing to sleep.
