Ryan kneeled down next to her. "Hah..it sure was a frail book. 'Bout time it broke--"
Zoey cut Ryan off in utter rage.
"GET THE HELL OUT!!! GET. OUT!!!!!" she screamed, jumping up and shoving Ryan out the door. Ryan struggled, but let her push him out. Once he was out of her room, she slammed the door behind him and locked it.
She walked back over to the torn up book and kneeled down next to it. She picked it up, and all the pages started falling out of it.
Zoey was heartbroken.
That book was the one memory she had left of her father before he died. After him and her mother divorced, Zoey's mother got rid of everything that reminded her of him.
She wasn't that good of a person before the divorce, but she got even worse afterwards.
The only thing Zoey could keep that was from her father was the book. That was the one thing her mother let her keep that was associated with her father.
And it was currently falling to pieces.
Zoey felt her eyes starting to fog up, and she wiped them before any tears could fall so her makeup didn't run.
The more she wiped her eyes, the more her makeup started to smear and she eventually let the tears run. She picked up the pages of the now mauled book, and placed it up on a top shelf in her room, trying not to make an audible sob.
She sneakily made her way out of her room, her makeup now running down her face, and went to the bathroom to clean herself up.
After Zoey wiped off the mascara that was running down her cheeks, and her smeared eye shadow, she decided that she would go out for a walk to clear up her mind.
She changed her clothes into a baggy sweater and sweatpants. She let her hair out of the topknot and just left it in the messy state it was in. She yanked her hood up and made her way towards the front door.
Zoey's mother caught her making her way out the door and interfered.
"Where do you think you're going, young lady?" She asked, quite stern.
Zoey sighed. "I'm just going for a short walk, mother." She replied. Zoey's mother rolled her eyes.
"Fine. But be back before the street lights turn on." Said her mother.
Zoey sighed then walked out the door, slamming it behind her and sped away from the house and to the woods.
Once the house was out of sight, Zoey slowed down a bit and enjoyed the sight. She loved walking through the woods whenever she had the chance to get away from the house.
She started thinking about the book that was torn into pieces. Her eyes started to water a little, but Zoey didn't even try to stop them this time. She began to cry, and her eyes were all clouded up and she couldn't see where she was going.
Zoey didn't realize that she was walking towards an open root in the ground and tripped on it, causing her to plunge into a thorn bush that was nearby.
Zoey whimpered in pain once she hit the thorn bush, causing her to just completely break down into tears.
Her mind was rushing with all kinds of thoughts. The book, her home life, her mother, Ryan, her father..
Why did her mother have to be so strict? So rude? So horrible?
Why did her father have to die?
"I wish I lived somewhere where I could be happy!" She cried, choking on sobs.
After a few minutes, Zoey began to feel dizzy, as if she was falling. Tears continued running down her face as she started to feel like she was going to pass out.
Then everything went black.
A while later
Zoey woke up with a start. Her whole body was in pain. But her surroundings felt different.
She felt.. comfortable.
Zoey slowly sat up to discover that she was somewhere completely different. She wasn't out in the woods anymore.
But she wasn't at home either...
