~The Thorn on The Rose~ a Hunter x Hunter Fanfic ft: [Name]

Prologue

Welcome to the start of a new story...

[Name] was the second-born twin out of them and Killua. No one could find out their gender it was like there was something blocking them from seeing. That never changed anything though especially with Kikyo, their mother, since no one could find out the gender of the child Kikyo got to dress them up however she wanted. Of course, it had its ups and downs some outfits were ugly and some were well done.

Eventually, by the time they were seven Killua and [Name] had some sort of bond. I mean they were separated most of the time before that so even though they were twins they barely knew each other. It had saddened [Name] whenever they thought of their twin, someone who they were tied to so strongly but were pulled apart from. Though as [Name] grew and lived in the manor they wanted a closer bond with the oldest, their brother. [Name] looked up to Illumi in a way that made Kikyo awe at the sight. [Name] trained harder to catch his attention but it never worked, Killua was the star and though [Name] loved their twin there was an ache for love and attention from the others in their life.

Canary came into their lives around that time too. She came on a day that Killua and [Name] were able to hang out together, even though they were told there were better things to do. both Killua and [Name] were sitting on a tree branch having some small talk.

"Are you going to get your hair cut soon?" Killua asked then took a bite out of his apple. [Name] turned to look at him and thought for a second. They liked their hair, the length it was at fit their face and made it look the best, but as eager to please as [Name] was, they started to question it.

"Is it that long already?,"[Name] picked up a piece. "Maybe I'll get it cut..." Killua nodded and pulled another apple out of his pocket and handed it to his sibling. 'should I ask?' [Name] thought they wanted to hang out with Killua more and Alluka probably Kalluto too. The training was hard and the only family they really saw was their Mother and father not to mention Illumi. Illumi was [Name]'s favorite, he rarely left Killua alone though, and didn't really pay attention to [Name]. Something which most of the family participated in.

Then Killua and [Name] heard someone. The both of them looked down and saw a girl around thirteen years old bowing to them. She was pretty, that's for sure.

"Do you need something?" Killua asked hand reaching out to hold his sibling's hand in a protective manner, as if [Name] wasn't able to protect themself. Then the girl spoke up" I just wanted to say Hi," a sweet smile was on her face as she looked up at the two Zoldycks. Killua spoke first.

"Are you new here?" Killua seemed uninterested in the conversation, to be honest, he wanted to hang out with [Name] and play together for once. I mean they were twins and Killua thought it was weird that they didn't have more of a bond. Or more so their bond was strained.

"Yes I am, My name is Canary," Canary answered. Killua gained more interest in the conversation while [Name] stayed quiet. Okay maybe [Name] was being stingy because they wanted to hang out with Killua but what can you do? Especially when the girl was being so kind. Killua looked over to [Name] and motioned to the ground silently asking if they wanted to go with him. [Name] nodded in response. They both jumped down together and Killua brought both of his hands in his pocket, letting go of [Name].

"I'll teach you the rhythm echo," Killua told the thirteen-year-old girl in front of him. [Name] felt Canary's attention switch to being fully on Killua, sure [Name] could join in but there was no point in doing so when Killua wanted to show off. it was funny how [Name] knew nothing and everything about Killua all at once.

"Rythem Echo?" Canary questioned. Canary had never heard of it before. [Name] nodded and Killua looked over to them [Name] understood what was happening and stepped back in a way of saying 'go on'. Killua let go of [Name]'s hand and started walking around Canary slowly then it appeared like there was more than one Killua. As [Name] watched a small smile grew on their face, content with the moment.

"You move at a certain rhythm creating after images," Killua informed. "...I see" Canary responded. Suddenly she snapped her head to her right and Killua looked that way too, [Name] was already looking that way. Canary had to leave because there were intruders on the property. both Killua and [Name] knew this was a test, everything was a test after all, and as the unfavored twin [Name] didn't want to get involved. A test for Canary, of course, they let her go but Killua wanted to follow her but [Name] didn't so [Name] was left alone, like usual. [Name] walked to a field, they knew Killua would want to hang around with Canary after all.

[Name] made a flower crown in silence but didn't want to wear it so they just set it beside's themself. [Name], as sharp as they are, knew Illumi was coming closer and waited patiently. Illumi slowly came into view of [Name]'s peripheral vision.

"[Name]" Illumi called, the aforementioned looked over at their older brother. "Where is Killua" He continued. [Name] knew that Illumi could find Killua if he really wanted to but still replied. "He was over in the forest just a moment ago, we had talked for a moment." technically it wasn't a lie, sure [Name] could give a more specific response but betrayal wasn't taken lightly and neither was lying so they gave the in-between.

"I see," Illumi exclaimed without emotion. An awkward silence washed over the siblings, [Name] didn't know what Illumi was going to say next. Though of course what Illumi said wasn't surprising, "You should be training." [Name] didn't let any emotion slip through their face but if one looked close enough they could see the slight anger in their eyes.

"Yes, brother." [Name] stood up after speaking. They knew what their brother thought of them and it hurt. As Illumi left [Name] went in the direction of the manor. Though before they could reach their destination Killua stopped them.

"[Name], we're friends, right?" As Killua spoke [Name] could tell he was upset, something was just off per se. [Name] nodded at Killua, because for as much as they envied their twin, they still loved him.

"We're friends, as long as we don't abandon each other." [Name] responded, and with that, there was a silent promise to each other. 

As the two got older they had each other's backs, even when pitted against each other. And eventually, when Killua wanted to run away, and even though [Name] still had some sort of love for their family, [Name] followed.
