Mission

Nat came and woke me up for some early training, but the whole time during training I couldn't stop thinking about his voice. It sounded soft with a deep British or Scottish accent. Wait... I need to stop thinking about it, I have a mission to train for. As I was snapping myself out of my thoughts, Nat looked at me like she knew I was thinking about something else.

I looked at her waiting for her to say something. "What, I wasn't going to say anything." she put her hands up in defense.

"Yeah, but I know you want to, so go ahead and say it."

"You can't get his voice out of your head can you?" she looked at me as I started smiling "I'll take that as a yes."

I nodded, throwing my knife at her, which she easily caught. "Yeah, but I'm not going to worry about it right now. We got a mission to focus on."

Red Wing came flying into the room "Start heading up to the meeting room." Sam said through Red Wing's intercom.

I rolled my eyes before saying "I'm so happy Dad put an intercom on Red Wing for Sam." Nat laughed as we headed out of the training to the meeting room.

~In the meeting room~

"Hey Ash, where's Nat?" Steve asked, handing me the file, noticing that Nat wasn't behind me.

"She-" I got interrupted by her walking in.

"I went to the kitchen to get some water for me and Ash." She replied, handing me my water.

Steve handed Nat a file as she walked over to her seat. Steve started talking, walking over to his seat next to Nat. "WCKD is taking people, but mostly teens, and using them as test rats for their experiments."

"They are wiping the memories of the teens and putting them into this...maze one by one."

"What do you mean one by one? Are they putting them into the maze and waiting until one makes it out to put another teen in?" I asked, looking over at Sam and Steve.

Clint answers before they have a chance to open their mouths "No, they put them into this cage with supplies that lifts them up into an open field once a month." I nod my head looking back down at the file. "The kid told us that they called it the glade and that they each had their own jobs."

"What kid?" I asked looking back over at Clint.

"A few kids were able to escape. Someone told one of the kids where to find us and that we could help."

"How are we going to help?" Nat asked.

"We are going to have Sam, Buck, and Ash go in." Steve said, looking at the three of us.

Buck must have noticed the confused look on my face before saying "Sam and I are going to be guards of the WCKD facility and you are going to be put in the maze. While we are in there we are going to figure out a way to get the rest of the kids out and a way to take down WCKD."

"Let me guess, my dad has no idea about your plan to send me there."

"Tony knows about it, but he doesn't like it."

~After the meeting~

Steve told me where the kid was so I could get a little more information about what the maze was. As I was heading to the kid's room I found out his name is Theo. I knocked on Theo's door, I heard a quiet "Come in". I walked in and noticed him sitting at the desk reading a book, which I guess he got from either Peter or Bruce.

"Hi Theo, I'm Ash. I was hoping I could ask you a few questions about the maze."

He stood up from the desk walking over to the bed, where I was standing. He looked about my age with tanned skin, brown slightly curly hair, and green eyes with specs of blue in them. He was a few inches taller than me and skinny, but not twig skinny. I looked at him a little longer and realized he looked like he could be Peter's brother.

He waved his hand in front of my face "Oh, sorry." I looked away trying to hide the red coming up to my cheeks.

"It's fine. You said you had some questions about the maze."

"Yeah, I wanted to know more about the maze and the glade."

~At the glade~

"It has been four days. There is no way they are still alive." Gally stated, shutting down Thomas's hopes of finding them.

"But what if they are hurt and th-"

"There are no what-ifs Thomas. Nobody has survived more than a night in the maze." Gally said, walking over to Thomas, pointing at the maze.

I heard Ably walk into the hut and over to me. "Thomas and Gally at it again." I just nodded my head not saying a word.

I walked over to the window when I heard the maze doors starting to close. I watched them shut close thinking about the risks the runners take when going into the maze everyday. I wonder what life would be like if we were never put into this mess.

I got pulled out of my thoughts when Teresa started talking "Gally is right Thomas. No one has ever come back from spending multiple nights behind those doors..." she paused before saying "and if someone does, then they are damn lucky."

I didn't want to listen to any of the fighting anymore, so I walked out and headed to the quietest place I could find away from everyone. I started thinking about her voice. How soft and calming it always sounds. Her voice always seems to help me relieve stress or make me forget about the world.

"Hey, Newt" Minho's voice brought me out of my thoughts as he sat down next to me.

Hey was all I said as I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone and wanted to be alone for a bit. We sat there for a while in silence listening to the wind blowing through the trees.

"Do you think they are dead?" Minho asked, looking over at me.

"I don't know, but I do wonder if they found a way out."

"So you think it's possible that we can find a way out of this place."

"I hope so."

~Back at the Avenger's tower~

I was now going over everything Theo told me. He told me that once a month they would get supplies along with a new person. Everyone had a job to do in the glade, there were the runners who ran the maze mapping it out, the builders who built everything around the glade, the med-jacks who took care of everyone that got hurt mainly the builders and runners, track-hoes worked in the gardens, and people that worked in the kitchen. Theo started as a builder and then got moved to be a runner.

He also told me some more information about the maze. The maze changed everyday and it had these creatures called grievers inside which made it less likely for anyone to survive a night inside the maze.

I headed to the lab where Bruce was so he could help me find a way to keep my memory when I go into the glade.

"Hey Bruce, I need your help with something."

"Hey Ash, what can I help you with?"

"I need to find a way to keep my memory so it doesn't get wiped when Sam, Buck, and I go on our mission."

"Ok, let's get started."

~A few days later~

Sam and Buck got into the facility and I just took what Bruce and I made to keep my memory. I acted stupid when they asked if I remembered anything. Before everything went black.
