Chapter 2 - Rimuru City

I drop a single "Hallo. I'll be living here too."

 The monsters go back to cheering, meanwhile I am dumbfounded. I made sure I seemed like the most boring person ever, and they still glorify it?

Ignoring the overdramatic hype over me joining these guys, I give Rimuru a smug look. He can't stop me from doing this and we both know that. His slimy body twitches in annoyance.

Rimuru POV

Milim decided she wanted to go to the hot springs, and me or Dave had to keep an eye on her. He obviously wasn't gonna do it, being a certified male and a newcomer, so I did.

Shuna and Shion went right after me. The bath was pretty calm. Relatively. Compared to the chaos I expected from Milim, this was quite civilized. She was swimming around and splashing water, Shion looked in approval, and Shuna was reprimanding her for playing in the bath.

I go out, and join a meeting with the guys. Rigurd, Kaijin, Benimaru, Hakurou, Souei and Dave were waiting for me, all but the last with tense faces.

It was clear to all the original inhabitants of this world that Milim's presence was something to worry about, with the balance among the Demon Lords and all.

I say this because me and Dave, as seen by his expression, were completely off the spectrum.

"Well, I think we should leave this to her bestie, Rimuru-sama." Rigurd hastily said. Most of those present agreed, except for a deep voice, which quite honestly surprised me.

"I don't mind taking care of her, I've had to deal with a kid far more annoying but I can't do it full-time. You're gonna have to switch it up with me sometimes."

Dave simply stated. I'm glad I can rely on him a bit. Still, I'm a little curious, how annoying was this so-called friend of his?

Well, I can ponder over that later.

"Well, I guess it's decided. Dave, can you stay for a bit? I need to speak to you."

"Uh, sure. Hakurou, tomorrow at 10 AM?"

"Yes, by the forest path. If you need help, ask Geld or one of the orcs. I'm looking forward to our training session."

"Likewise."

After the small talk between the two seasoned swordsmen, everyone else left.

Now it was time for me to learn more about Dave. He's been way too secretive even though he seems laid back with everything.

"You're an Otherworlder, right? How did you arrive to this world?"

"I know just as much as you do, Rimuru. All I know is I spent an eternity in the Void before I got here."

Weird. What's this Void he speaks of? I suppose it's that thing I went through when I came into this world, but I don't think I spent eternity...

"By the way, you're a slime, right? How come you look so much like a human?"

I shuddered. Such an innocent question, yet so heartbreaking, as it reminded me of Shizu.

"...A friend of mine, named Shizu, asked me to devour them as a last wish."

As I let out a sigh of sadness, Dave puts his hand on my shoulder.

"Sorry for what's about to happen."

As I looked at him, my vision turned dark. Not because I was passing out, mind you, but because my surroundings looked like they had their light sucked out of them.
