I apologize for the very short chapter.

"You know, you never told me why you chose him as your mortal form," Y/n mused. "Did you choose him on purpose or just randomly?"

Truth be told, he had no answer. The best he can say is yes, it was random.

Guizhong, old friend, I call upon you once more. What would you say? What is my purpose?

A small shuffle caught Zhongli's attention. Y/n's figure laid in bed, the covers flung off of her causing him to sigh. A horrible habit of hers he was quick to pick up on. He pulled the covers back up to her chin and sat back down.

Archons don't need sleep nor do they need to eat. A shock Y/n had discovered not too long ago.

"W-wait, if you don't need to eat or sleep, then has all of my cooking gone to waste?!"

"No, no. I assure you, darling, your cooking has not gone to waste," Zhongli had reassured. "I may not require it but it does not mean I cannot enjoy it."

Sweet, kind, and gentle-hearted Y/n. So kind and selfless enough to help strangers, even those outside of Liyue Harbor.

"Why help strangers? You do not know them."

Y/n lowered her arm and turned to face him.

"My mama always told me being kind to someone can help someone who's had a bad day," she explained. "You never know what's going on in a person's life."

Ah. There it is. Perhaps that is why Zhongli was chosen to be his new form. To protect her pure soul.

Pulling the covers back, he slipped into bed. Immediately, Y/n sought out his warmth, finding comfort in his embrace.

And he will gladly protect it. For as long as he could possibly stand.
