Chapter Six
“Daddy! Oh my gosh Daddy!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, but he didn’t even look at me,
did he even hear me? “Daddy!” I screamed. I tried running to him, heck I forced my legs to move, but
I couldn’t, not a single inch and it pissed me off. Why couldn’t I go see my dad… help him. I could
clearly see his face now, he was close enough that if I took a few steps forward I’d bump into him.
Where are we? A sharp ring echoed through the empty space. My dad dug into his pocket to grab
his cell phone. I expected it to be his blackberry, considering he was a business man. But it was a
large blue and silver phone that flipped open. It looked older than me. “Hello?” he asked, stopping
in his tracks and listening intently to the person on the other line, “Hey baby, yeah I got lost…” he
said, “I know! I hate that don’t you?” he paused, a boyish grin on his face. “Yeah uh, twenty minutes,
I could see your house from here, talk to you later, bye,” he paused and laughed, “I love you too,
bye,” he smiled and flipped the phone closed. He sighed, happily in love. “Why can’t he hear us?” I
asked to Nicolette who took a few steps back. “Let’s follow him,” she said, as we watched a
younger version of my Dad walk away towards a suburb that wasn’t there a few seconds ago. “Wait
I can’t move my…” I began but slowly stopped talking, letting the words drift off. I pulled my leg up,
then the other and then I was walking. I smiled, now I know how little kids think when they try to
walk.
I grabbed Nicolette’s hand and we began walking towards the suburbs that were too far from
here, a quarter of a kilometre, at most. The sun beat down on our backs, why was it so dang hot
here? “Nicolette, I don’t think we’re in Canada anymore,” I said, Hearing Nicolette snort loudly
before rolling her eyes at me. “No really,” she mumbled sarcastically as asphalt suddenly
appeared under our feet. Our feet making loud clicking sounds that echoed throughout the whole
neighbourhood. It felt eerily empty, unusual, just like the odd color of the sky. I didn’t know how to
describe this but it was incredibly odd, making the hairs on my neck stand up. “Where do we go? I
lost your dad,” Nicolette said, her head whipping from side to side, eyes scanning. “There!” I
jumped, and pointed towards a house that looked like my old home, before I moved. Same number
and everything. “Isn’t that…” Nicolette began before I raced down the sidewalk towards my home.
Home… what I would give just to be at home with everyone I love safe.
Soon… too soon, we ended up at the front door step of my old house and just… walked in.
Considering I used to live here I think I could walk in, not invited. I looked around the front hallway,
still furnished in the same things we left it in. I miss this house, I spent a most of my childhood in
here, I did love it. The hallway still smelled of baked cookies and chocolate. “Hey baby, you wanted
