Marcia's POV: Twilights First of Many Grievances
The air was thin. The protestant blood moon hung above our heads in the glittery night sky. Me and my boyfriend could obviously tell that the end was drawing near. Life would soon cease to exist. My beloved boyfriend, John and I ran towards the chapel, our hearts racing at the sudden realization of death coming our way. John kicked in the door and we proceeded to storm the ancient church, iron swords and emblems in hand.
"What do you think will happen if they're successful?" Maria said worriedly.
"Don't think about that babe, we can't let them know we're scared. They feed off of fear." As if on cue with his words the narrow hallway windows exploded one by one. Apparitions appeared from the glass shards on the floor. They slowly stood up, forming leather skin. With their snarly claws and sharp teeth they ran at a full gallop at us.
John was the first of us to react. With his beaming sword he cut off the first monster's head and stabbed the other in it's gnarly foot. The other monster howled in pain while I continued the kill with a final blow to the chest with my dagger. It dropped dead. The rest of the monsters looked at us with their intense red eyes and lunged at us.
I remembered a spell, or more like a defensive incantation. I knew it would be difficult to perform because of the night, however I tried anyway. I raised my emblem in a defensive stance and shouted, "thgil emoc" The wind howled as if proceeding my request as a question. "THGIL EMOC," I shouted once more. The symbol in my hand hummed lightly as if attempting to power up. The monster ran at a full speed.
The light started to form around me, but it flickered then sizzled out. The monster slashed his humongous hand, slicing his claws across my face. "Get away from my wife!" I heard John cry out. Wife? I thought to myself. I clearly didn't hear him correctly. I mean we were only 16! We weren't even supposed to be out here. Our parents had clearly refused to let us do this line of work. Now, I see why. My vision went fuzzy as the venom coursed through my veins. All I remember seeing is John piercing the monster with an electrical charged arrow to the head.
John ran to my side in a nervous hurry and applied a thick sticky solution to my cheek. I instantly felt better. Adrenaline pumped through my veins. "Thanks." I said as I struggled to get up.
"No problem." He did in fact look like it had been a problem. His forehead was sweating and his blazer was shredded and torn. We continued down the hallway and walked through the double sided doors to the main section of the chapel. It didn't look like a union of two souls at all. It looked as if there was going to be a funeral at some point. It was dimly lit by candles surrounding the room signaling the dark, gloomy attire of the place.
At the end of the room stood two individuals along with a frightened looking priest. I could tell the one on the right was being possessed by whom I didn't quite know yet. He wore a faded gray suit, his eyes were rolled back. The woman on the left however, was everything but human. She was a middle aged woman whose facial features were not quite human. Her faded moldy gown was torn at the hems and her face was withered and wrinkled. It seemed that her cold slit eyes stared at us as we stood there in shock.
The man only smiled at us as we approached the room. "Hello, dear friends." His voice was raspy and eerie, as if there were a thousand voices talking at once in hushed whispers. "You're just in time to see the union."
John was honestly a little bit more brave than I. With a courageous and strong voice he yelled, "We will never let you guys join together!" He loaded his crossbow and shot the chain connecting the chandelier to the roof. The exquisite piece fell on the two individuals. They were not very fazed from the pressure of the large source of light, but they were knocked down from the altar. The priest ran towards us in glee.
"Get behind the seat," I said hastily. He did as instructed. We raised our blades and charged at the deities. To our surprise even though they had fallen down they deflected our attacks with a violent ease. The man swiped his hand in the air and I instantly felt a burning sensation course through my body causing excruciating pain.
John quickly raised a furbished ivor wand and pointed it towards me. "Laeh," The wand's tip glewed a faint white and I felt the pressure of the demon's power cease from my physical structure. John extended his hand and helped me up, "Let's finish this." John lifted a device we had worked on together. "The Pandorian Carcer." This unique device had the necessary configurations to imprison a deity, especially a demon.
Before the demon could make a move John lunged at him with the device piercing him in the heart of the human he was possessing. The runes surrounding the jar-like device started to glow as the demon howled in pain. The woman extended her hand. Sharp talons extended from her fingertips evergrowing. She slashed at John who easily dodged the strike. I, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky.
When the woman went to slash at me I went to block her humongous arm but was too late as in I was flown across the room. I hit the wall hard and heard a huge snap in my leg. I yelled in a lowly bellowed scream. As if on cue with my pained howl the church started shaking. Pieces of rock and limestone fell from the ceiling encasing monsters in rumble. John looked at the woman and stared into her eyes, "Lilith, mother of monsters, hear my cry. I hereby ban you from returning to the earthly plane. For if you do I wish the bowls of hell do their worst." He encased his sword with a white flame and jabed the blade into Lilith's chest. She instantly disintegrated as she was sent back to hell.
The possessed man looked up from the ground and snared, "I Pazuzu will return in 25 years when your time runs out. You cannot contain me forever. The ancient demon lunged at me but John was quicker than the beast. With the device raised he spoke, "Pandorae bestiam Redi," The device which was oozing with the black blood from before started to hum as if drawing in an energy. The possessed man erupted with oozing black liquid and a thick black vapor. As the demon's physical form started to resist I walked over to Pazuzu and punched him straight in the face. The demon lost all focus on anchoring himself onto this world and was absorbed by the device never to be seen again. Or so we thought.
