Brave New Day

As Autumn watched a shadowy sky
chase a golden butterfly—
she sadly witnessed, just how fast
a treasure quickly flutters past.

Oh she tried to catch the wings of gold
but every summer must grow cold.
Then as the sun set, she closed her eyes
and all of Heaven heard her cries.

That evening, as Autumn tried to sleep
she felt the weight of winter creep
across her eyelids—then in the dead
of night, she heard a voice that said:

"When sorrow will not go away
it's been your choice to let it stay
and fester until a storm appears
and irrigates your heart with tears.

So will you let your troubles go
or let them drink more fears and grow?
The choice, is always yours to make—
that's how you learn to soothe your heartache.

Never forget, you have the will
to stand and let the morning fill
your heart with light—so you can spread
goodwill to the ailing still in bed."

As Autumn listened to the voice
of light, she felt her soul rejoice;
because she understood—from heartache
a spirit learns to rise and wake.

Just then, the morning kissed her eyes
and Autumn woke a little more wise;
she let her troubles fade away,
then stood and joined a brave new day.
