Amber Baine
I look at the bright red door in front of me. It was almost taunting me, daring me to knock. The brass 17 had some green around the sides and the screw in the corner of the '7' was hanging on on a thread.
come on it's not like you have any other choices; you got evicted out of your last apartment and going back home isn't really an option.
I take a deep breath and hesitantly knocked on the rotting door. Before I could put my hand down the door flew open and in the doorway stood a very obviously excited woman.
She had her wavy brown hair in a high pony, her hazel coloured irises sparkled with excitement. She was wearing strawberry earrings that were wildly swinging from her ears. Her light pink sweater was loosely tucked into her blue jeans. She had a pair of white and pink sneakers on and a pair of white socks were peaking out.
"Hi, I am Anne Bridgettes! I am a literature major and my dream is to write a best-selling book! I grew up on this small farm in the middle of nowhere, but I'd always rather read than actually do work. My all time favorite is the Harry Potter series and Rainbow Rowells books." she talked fast and she used her hands a lot.
Wow.
I must have zoned out because when I finally snapped back she was looking at me expectantly.
"uh excuse me?" was all i could get out. My mouth was unusually dry and I noticed I had been sub consciously chewing my nails.
"Are you Amber Baine?" she asked again slowly - or what I assume is slow for her.
"uhm yeah, I'm here to move into the apartment?" I say, with more confidence this time.
She face balms herself and smiles at me. When she smiles there are two dimples at the corners of her mouth and her eyes light up.
"Come on in" she says grabbing my wrist and leading me in.
In front of me was a quaint little living room. It looked like a yard sale or a thrift shop. A million different colours and patterns were displayed in front of me. There was a fireplace and two windows either side of it. On the mantel of the fire place there was a box TV and three piles of books each stacked 4 books high.
From the ceiling there hanged multiple plants and there were more scattered on the ottomans and small tables that stand around on the most peculiar places. In the middle of it all there was a nice plush green carpet. On the walls there are multiple framed pictures and artworks. The pictures look like they were taken professionally, but the same couldn't be said for the artworks.
Anne continued to lead the way as she took me to the kitchen. It was only 8 steps away from the corner of the living room. The cabinets were all painted a nice green colour with brass handles. The counters followed a similar design and it displayed multiple appliances such as microwaves and kettles and a lot of plants. It was relatively tidy with a lot of plates in different colours were displayed. It had a nice view of the street outside. The cobble stones were glistening in the sun as it had just rained. There was a rack with dish cloths and jars all with neat labels on them. The floor was a nice white and black check which really complimented the white walls. There was a small round dining table in the middle of the kitchen. There were six different chairs each one a different colour or size.
Next she took me to the bathroom which was relatively small but it had everything you needed. There was one bath which looked like it came directly from the 1800's. The toilet was pretty standard except for the fact that there were three plants on the lid. In the corner there was a shower with gray stone walls and frosted glass. The sink which looked like it was white awhile ago has started to obtain a yellow-ish colour. Above the sink there was a antique mirror and a little shelf which had even more plants on it and a few essentials such as toothbrushes and makeup. Anne showed me that under the sink there were drawers where I could put anything I need in.
"Now for the rooms. Unfortunately this is only a three bedroom apartment and seeing as you are our sixth housemate you are going to have to share with someone. But Charlene volunteered so now you can have the spare bed in her room." Anne stated it as if it was the most important piece of information that I might ever hear.
I only nodded my head and followed her lead towards the bedrooms.
There was noting special about the hallway except maybe for a few pillows in what looks to be a reading nook.
Anne opened the door to Charlene's - my room. On the bed on the right hand side layed a girl with a pair of black sunglasses on her head. She looked at me as if I was chore which she did not want to do before she got off of her bed. She walked over to me and lazily extended her hand.
Her perfectly manicured hand contrasted against her pale skin. She was wearing a simple black long sleeve crop top and a pair of black cargo pants. She wore a pair of fuzzy pink socks on her feet. She had blond hair which hang loose past her shoulders. It was pin straight except for her side bangs which she had curled. Her eyes were piercing blue as they looked into mine. They were ice cold as she stared me down, daring me to say something stupid or to make a fool out of myself.
I slowly took her hand and shook it.
"Amber Baine," I stated
"Charlene LaCroix," she answered in a very thick french accent. She gave me a small smirk.
"This will be your room" she said waving her hand carelessly to her back.
"I'll get started on dinner!" Anne chirped before she practically skipped away.
Charlene decided to retire to her bed again so it was just me standing in the doorway looking around.
The room was relatively small but it was completely covered. On the left side of the room there was a bed which is completely bare except for one pillow. I assume it's mine and go to sit on it.
The wall is covered with a billion different posters which on closer inspection is just pages from different mangas. Charlene's bed was black and white. The only pop of colour was some plants and a few stray candles. There was a stack of books on the floor next to Charlene's bed. In the back of the room by the window is a desk - or rather a work station. On the desk there is a big pile of papers are sketches of what seems to be clothes.
I guess Charlene is a fashion major.
"Anne said there are six housemates?" I ask curiously.
"Yes." she answered not even bothering to look up from her phone.
"Where are they?" I try again
"I don't know"
Wow! Would you quit talking my ear off!?
I nervously tug on my jeans before I decide to give up.
This is going to be so fun...
