I lay in the rain, his body clutched in my hands. The weight of the rain stung like my eyes. Blood running down his face, shakily I brushed his hair. "No.." The words wrapped around my throat, tightening. His eyes stated back at mine. Blankly his gaze stared through me. Scanning the field I cried for help, but the rain drowned out the noise. "Get up please!" "Please get up please!". The storm raged and worsened, I looked back down, and felt the strangest of sensations. then it hit me, a tingle ran through my body. A feelIng of something moving around you. A feeling of someone lurking just out of view. My chest puffed and collapsed. Hastily I grabbed his arm, hands slipping of his skin. The weight of his cold body was like a boulder, trying to pick him up. "please god no! WAKE UP!". Scattering across their body I tried to lift them, a hand under his leg and the other on his back. With a groan I tried to rise, my arms shaking and veins pulsing. A large exhale released his body. I took a moment to catch my draining breath. With a crack I unevenly stood, I hooked my hands under his shoulders and began to tug. His body slowly dragged across the muddy grass. Pulling and pulling i slowly made ground, constantly readjusting my grip. Pausing and starting again as I grew wearier with each pull, their body growing heavier and heavier. Scanning once more for help I froze, standing down the field a silhouette cut through the rainfall. "No no no no..." I quietly muttered "no no no" panic began to rise "GET AWAY!" I yelled. "NOT NOW!" I gripped him again with a burst of adrenaline "I WONT GO LIKE THIS!" The figure slowly marched forward. "No no that not-that not fair". Desperation began to set in. My shoulders and back ached for rest, my legs wobbled with each step. The thought of having to leave him behind began to set in. "PLEASE GOD THATS NOT FAIR! THIS ISN'T RIGHT!" As I readjusted my grip a final time my hands slipped, causing me to fall flat on my back. Tears flowed as my head hit the ground, instinctively I slowly rolled over, knees curled into my chest. "I can't move! I can't get up-I can't I- help me" my voice tightened and tightened, words unable to escape. Tilting my head down slowly and painfully I saw it. It's shadow loomed over him. Trying to arise or scream my body layer there, all systems failing. I watched as it reached out a hand, grasping onto his leg. My chest began to race. A low squeal was all that was mustered. His body began to stray from mine, being pulled further and further away. The sound of rain began to fade as I watched helplessly, I'd spent everything. My body shaking from the cold, crying to myself unable to save him. Eyelids began to drop slowly like curtains. The world beginning to cast its final images. It was a slow, lonely closing.
