Tyrel walked into Kya's apartment with the food she brought over earlier. He knew she was mad at him based on her tone.
"Kya, baby I know you're pissed and you have every right to be. I didn't tell you the whole story behind her."
Kya looked up at him and placed a finger to her lip, so she could hear the person on the other end of the line. "I'm sorry, Darrell. My friend just walked in."
Tyrel blinked and then nodded understanding exactly what she was doing.
"Your friend?! So you're just gonna lie about the TWO rings on your finger baby?"
"Shhh!" She waved him away. "He's just kidding. Anyway, I can email you these notes, and thank you for exchanging. Professor Hilton makes Astronomy harder than it needs to be."
"How am I kidding about you wearing two rings when I'm looking dead at your left hand? Make it make sense."
"Shhh!" She waved her hand again. "I'm sending them right now." She grabbed her laptop to email the document to her classmate, giggling at something he asked her on the other end. "Yeah, that's me. If you would like, I could give you a ride some day."
His eyes widened in shock and he pretended to faint.
She looked over at him and blinked. "Um...I'll call you back." She rushed over to Tyrel and checked his pulse.
After a couple minutes he opened his eyes.
"What happened? How did I get down here?"
"You fainted. Are you over-exerting yourself at practice?"
"I don't think so. My bad baby, I didn't mean to disturb your conversation."
"It's okay. I can always talk to him in the morning."
"Tomorrow is Saturday and it's the first one I've had to myself in weeks. I wanted to spend it with you."
"Okay. Because it's you, I'll spend it with you."
"Thank you. Now about earlier, where should I start?"
She stood up. "Your little friend being disrespectful. In Wakanda, that kind of behavior gets someone clocked in the mouth."
"That shit will get you knocked out in Philly. I checked her ass for it already in front of you and when you left."
She turned away from him and walked over to the couch, responding to an email on her laptop. "I left because she was gonna miss some teeth."
"You should have, she can't fight. Got her ass beat multiple times in high school behind that smart mouth. We're getting off topic, I guess I should tell you everything."
She closed her laptop and looked at him. "I'm listening."
"Victoria Velazquez, former best friend and ex fiancée."
She raised her brow at the fiancée part.
"I know, how could I possibly propose to her and to be honest, I'm not sure that I did. We grew up together, best friends since kindergarten. My entire family despises her and she's never been inside the house. Started dating at 14 and by senior year we were that couple. You know, most popular since she was captain of the cheerleaders."
"I'm aware. I've seen almost every teen drama from the 90s, early 2000s, and now. I know how that works."
"Anyways, I had this ring Grandpa Russell gave me and I took it out of my pocket while we were at the park. She started squealing and shouting yes while I was beyond confused. Next thing I know, everybody is congratulating me on my engagement. I don't recall asking that question ever."
