Everyone was ordered to go back to base
The war was done they said
One man knew better it wasn't over he was there to set things right this time around
After everyone left
Not without saying, man let's go
Your wasting your time
Why would you stay when it's over
Your going to miss out
With his time he had set up traps and he had things to aim at anyone that was to attack
After the sun went low figures started to appear
Suddenly gun fire rang
The enemy started to shoot
But at who
They thought they would get the upper hand at a surprise attack
When nothing shot back they crept slowly up the small hill
The soldier knew not to aim first
Like a game of chess
Don't make no sudden moves, wait and see
Even a slight movement could change everything
Catching his breath he slowed his heartbeat and he laid still almost part of the ground
As they neared
A recollection came to him
Like a wave catching you in it's wake
Do you wait still or do you go under?
In his mind he saw this same scene but it was from a past when they were surprised and lost
This time he stayed and knew there was more to that day
In his memories he saw the same thing ---except that this time he was there
He could change everything
He was only one against thousands
As the enemy approached
His heart started to sound in his ears
He knew--- it was almost time
He pulled the strings to every grenade he placed underground
As the pins fell
The enemy without knowing took another step in that step, loud sounds resonated all around they stood still almost frozen
Then the grenades exploded all around
Right, left, front, back, upper level, lower level, all around gun fire sounded
The enemy not knowing were the attack came from shot freely
In their despair they shot at each other
Not knowing that only one person was their sole target
The soldier ran to the left towards the ammo
He started to aim at more of the enemy the ones that still stood
As they dwindled in numbers and only a handful stood
They chased after the soldier they couldn't believe a man a single man could take ---most near to all their army
As he ran he thought about how honored he was to serve his country and all the lives that would still live for another day
How many children would have an opportunity to dream
Nearing his last andrenaline Shot
When his running turned to languid steps
His troop appeared in the horizon
They saw him dodging gun fire left and right
They couldn't believe that he still could jog in the shape he was in
Another man would have long since been gone
They saw in his eyes a determined man
The ferocious look of a predator that was set free
They then took position and started to aim back
In seconds the enemy fell
The troop looked at him and knew this one man was a MAN not only did he live to tell the tale
But he deserved more than a medal
His heart was in the right place and ---honor--- he had that plus more
One man made history not only for now but from a past as well
In that last sunlight it was as if those before him that lost their lives stood before him and saluted him
That type of salute that hits straight to the heart and is not only felt but cherished
He saluted back
Knowing that history didn't repeat itself and that all that fell now can go home
Making things right never meant more than that day
***
One man can make miracles
This one I dedicate to the fallen and those that still are here
To the military our military
God bless you all and yours
