It did not work. The sky people could not convince my sister to dispose plans of war. She came home and announced that they were going to use the boy they have in the lab as our weapon. I sprinted to see the experiments they posed on the boy, knowing it was not Jasper thankfully.
I reached the door to the lab and was stopped by Lexa and Indra.
"Marco, you have no business here," Indra spat viciously at me.
"Nor do you Indra, should you not be readying the troops or was that my imagination when I heard Aine announce war?" I questioned, my eyebrows raised.
Indra was about to pounce on me as if I were a wounded gazelle, but what stopped by Lexa's arm. Indra looked at Lexa solemnly as she forced her to move from the entrance.
"Enter then but believe me peace keeper, you are not going to like what you see," Lexa said gesturing towards the door.
"I will judge for myself where my interests are," I replied as I passed her and opened the door of the lab and allowed to shut behind me.
A boy. Chained down like an animal, knelt down in the centre of the room, head bowed weakly. His jacket was torn and barely together, his shirt drowned in dried blood.
I moved slowly towards him knowing he could not harm me when he was restrained. He knew of my presence but he did not look up, possibly in fear. I knelt down in front of him and studied him. His movements were slow and enhanced almost as if time itself had slowed down.He was muttering something to himself melodically yet sorrowfully,
"Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me... If you are here to get information, there is nothing to tell," he snapped bitterly.
"I am not here for information," I replied astounded by his comment.
He began to laugh cynically,"Really now? So you've come to see the psychotic sky person and laugh at how pathetic he is too?"
He looked up at me at I was mesmerised by pity and horror. He was no older than 18, just like the rest of them. His face was darker than any I have ever seen. His cheekbones were well chiselled and covered in blood. His forehead had three long cuts across it, the blood stains drizzled down his face. One eye was swollen and the other a cut just below it. His eyes were a scorching blue that could freeze you in your place, but were still filled with innocence that I missed seeing. His bottom lip was cut and slightly swollen and well from the distance I was kneeling at were soft and smooth.
Bruises littered his neck like a ring around it, I moved closer and let my fingers touch it. The boy flinched and jerked his head back in pain.
"Where did you get the bruise?" I asked quietly.
He laughed at me once again,"Did they not tell you how they found me? I was banished from my people for a murder I didn't commit, but that was after they almost hung me for the murder the little brat commited with my knife."
I was astounded by this response, the sky people condemned the boy for something he did not do? It may be my grounder stereotyping here, but he does look slightly sinister compared to the others but he is innocent and did not deserve such treatment. I took one of his hands and he looked at me as if I was insane or just a terrifying monster.
"I am not here to hurt you, I wanted to see what my sister had planned for you."
"Sister?"
"Yes sister. Do you not have siblings?"
"We weren't allowed siblings on the ark, over population and all that crap. Hehe, O was sent down here because she was born."
