I had to admit, something about Jay caught my attention. He was.. different. Well, obviously, considering the fact that he was so much more reserved than others. But, he was different in the way that whenever I looked at him - even just a quick glance - I got this weird feeling in my stomach. It wasn't unpleasant or anything, it was just a little strange. I just felt like I had to get to know him.

I was suddenly snapped out of my thoughts by the loud and obnoxious ringing of the bell, screaming that it was time to leave. I suppressed a grin as I packed up my things. The last class of the day was over, meaning that it was time for Jay to come to my house. Why was I so happy? It's not like I hadn't had friends over before.

The teacher yelled something about having a good day, but I didn't listen. I just scooped up my stuff and hurried to my locker, bumping into quite a few people along the way. I got everything and searched for Jay's face in the crowd.

After a few seconds of looking around, I saw him putting things away in his locker. I walked over to him and leaned against the locker next to his. He jumped probably three feet in the air and snapped his head to look at me.

"O-Oh. Hi." Jay stuttered, fear crossing his features for a split second before he averted his gaze to the ground.

"So, should we leave?" I asked, ignoring the fleeting emotion on Jay's face and pushing off of the locker.

He just nodded in response and followed me silently as I walked over to my rusty, dull red truck.

I unlocked it and sat in the driver's seat, Jay clambering into the passenger's seat after me. I shoved the key into the ignition to start it and rested my hands on the steering wheel.

"Listen to her purr." I joked as the truck sputtered and coughed before running properly.

"But it wasn't.. purring." He said, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Jeez, it was sarcasm." I laughed as I pulled out of the parking lot. "You should really get out more."

"Oh.." He said under his breath as a blush spread across his cheeks.

I laughed again, making Jay blush even harder.

The rest of the ride was relatively silent, but it wasn't the awkward type of silent that made you want to rip your hair out and scream at the top of your lungs. It was comfortable.

We arrived at my house after a little while. I stepped out of the truck easily and slammed the door shut. Jay, however, tumbled out, regaining his balance just before he fell onto the pavement.

"I take it you don't have much experience with getting out of cars?" I laughed as we walked inside me house. He just shrugged, his face turning a soft rosy red. He looked really cute.

Wait, what?

I mentally shook the thoughts out of my head as I tossed my backpack against the wall of the hallway.

Jay set his backpack next to mine gently before following me into the living room.

My dad was sitting on the couch, watching TV when we walked in. He looked over and smiled when he saw us.

"You've already made a new friend?" He asked, getting up off the couch and walking up to us. He was rather tall, and was lightly muscled. He was also quite handsome, making it a bit strange that he hadn't already remarried.

Jay seemed to hide behind me like a child would hide behind their mother when he stopped in front of us.

"This is Jay. We were gonna go upstairs to work on a project together." I said, sidestepping so he wasn't hiding anymore.
