Normally I'll start with the head, a simple circle, then the ears, wonky looking triangles, smooth them out later but they're fine for the time being. Also if you'd like, you can place the cross on wherever the animal is facing.

This is a big jump but I started doing the shape of the neck, then the shoulder, and then the vague shape of the torso, and then a marker for the hind leg.

Add the starting a for the upper legs, the hind leg is special, they have a more pronounced elbow and the bone is jutting out slightly more.
