"Do you remember our first proper date?”

“Yes,” he replied. “You took away all the forks and knives so I wouldn’t be able to hurt myself and asked the waiter if we could just have spoons instead. You didn’t care that we were eating expensive steak that neither of us could afford and sipping wine out of glasses that cost more than either of us made in a month. All you wanted was for me to be happy because you said that would make you happy in return, and ever since that day all I’ve ever wanted was to make you feel as great as you made me feel then. That was easily one of the best meals of my entire life because I didn’t feel like I was suffocating anymore, and I fell in love with you because of that. I’m still in love with you because of that.”

        “Really?”

“Of course. I can still remember you as you were then, your dark hair was a mess from worrying over me all day and your skinny elbows were perched on the table like a tiny bird, attempting to eat my every word. You made me feel good for once in my life and you’ve never really stopped doing that even now. It will always be the best dinner date of my life, even if we never actually touched our food."
