• Hi guys! Hope you like my book. Please do not copy my book. This is my book, my ideas and everything. I do have copyright and will report if I find that you copied it. I'm not mean I just don't like it when people do it. •

"Run. And don't look back. Remember your father and I love you very much." My mothers words rang in my ears as I took of running from my house. I heard howls from wolves as I ran. Then I heard gunshots. I kept running.

I didn't look back. I would keep running. Being lost in the woods as a young wolf, it really gets to you.

I ran for two days straight my stomach shouting at me for a decent meal, only calming when I was able to catch something. I wasn't use to hunting alone. Contrary to what people believe. Most wolves don't like to be on their own. My fur was matted and caked with burrs and dirt. Then almost as if Odin heard my complaints about being dirty, the storm started. Thunder boomed and lightning cracked the sky as I ran. I was no longer running out of promise from my mother but from fear of the storm.

I could smell people, and while the fear of the storm drove me closer, the scent of a human also made me want to turn tail in the direction I came. My mother had always told me humans were never to be trusted. Humans had fire...and guns. A small house appeared in the distance and unless I wanted to wait out the storm in a bush I would need to go against all instinct.

Shifting to my human form I ran up to a little cottage and banged on the door. Every fiber of my wolf begged me to turn around. I hated being this close to the house. I remember one time we got close by accident during a hunt and a man had come out with a gun and chased us away. We weren't after his livestock. Just a deer. Just as I was about to turn and run, a really old lady answered the door. I couldn't help myself and cowered back a little.

"Please miss... I'm only s-seeking s-shelter." I said, my voice cracking with my fear fear taking over.

"Oh lass. Don't be afraid. Come inside out of this storm" she said with a gentle voice that reminded me of my grandmother. I cautiously stepped into the hallway, my body shaking out of both fear and the cold. She brought me a towel and wrapped it around my shoulders and I held back a growl that threatened to come out from the closeness of her. "Come into the kitchen lass and I get you some warm milk and then I'll try and find you some clothes so you can get out of those wet ones." She motion for me to follow her and started off down the hall. My wolf cried for the outside, but I knew being out there was dangerous, more dangerous then the four walls that threatened to close in on me. I followed her and kept looking behind me to make sure I had a clear route of escape. " So lass. Do you have a name?" The woman asked and poured milk into a pot. I watched as she turned a button and fire lept up and licked at the pot. My eyes trained to the fire as I answered quietly. "My name is Raven..."

She motioned me to sit on the stool. "Well take a seat Raven and I'll find you something warm to wear. She disappeared as I sat and watched the fire. Terrified that it would start to catch everything ablaze. She quickly returned with a shirt and soft pants. "Here, they were my sons, but they'll do in a pinch. Go into the next room and change, then bring me your wet clothes and we'll wash and dry them tomorrow." I hesitantly approached her and took them carefully and went to change. So far she'd yet to hurt me, but you could never be sure. I wiped my face with my wet shirt and changed. I walked back into the room where she was and sat back on the stool. "Thank you..um..what's your name?" I asked, feeling bad I hadn't thought to before.

She smiled warmly at me as she poured a cup of milk for me. "My name is Sara. Now, do you want to tell me why a young girl like you is out at this hour in a storm?" I looked down at the cup of milk. This was a rare treat. And I'd never had it warm. "I... I am running. And I'm not that young, I'm 16" I mumbled and took a sip from my cup. It was amazing. Besides 16 was an adult in a pack anyways, so I hope she'd drop it. "Running from what?" She asked. Time to add a story to the truth. I can't tell her who and why I'm running from. She'd probably turn me in. Or sell me to a scientist.

"I'm running from some men who my parents owe some money. When my parents didn't give it to them on time they killed them. And now they're after me. I've been running for two days straight." I finally say, hoping it sounded realistic. "Oh lass. I'm so sorry. Did you go to the police?" I gulped, now what. "Yeah. They couldn't find them." Another lie. I did feel badly for lying, especially since she'd been nothing but nice. What came out of her mouth next surprised me, "Well. How about this. You can stay here until it all does down. I lived outside of the town over, but no one ever expects much to happen here." I bit my lip, did I really want to stay in a human home? Did I have a better option? I didn't have anywhere to run to. "It could take a long time for it to die down." was all I could think to say.

"Nonsense. I don't care if it takes years. You can go to school here. It starts on Monday. You have the full weekend to get settled then on Sunday we will go enroll you." I stared hard at the table. School? Did she mean with humans? I need to come up with a plan before that happens. But for now...this was a place to sleep. "Thank you so very much." I offered her a small smile for the first of them in days. Maybe my mother was wrong about people. Maybe they weren't all that bad...just some.
