REPOST: I'll take care of you, I promise; Clint Barton x deaf child reader

Start from the beginning

"What exactly are you looking at?" Clint took notice of out the girl would rub against her ears most of the shot before wringing her hands and repeatedly going back to her ears again. He then shot off down the hallway.

Nat called out his name repeatedly but Clint didn't listen as he kept running towards the room that they were keeping the girl in. He saw a couple of doctors about to enter the room when he said.

"Hold it wait, wait, wait, wait don't. Hold on don't go in there just yet."

"Agent Barton you have no clearance to interfere with us." One of the doctors said.

"Yeah and you don't have any clearance to handle that little girl. You step in there she won't even understand you."

"Clint what do you mean?" asked Natasha.

"I noticed the signs of her rubbing her ears harshly, the frantic hand wringing. She's signing. She's deaf." At this point Nat understood.

"That would explain why she couldn't understand the agent back at the base." She muttered.

"Exactly. She's trying to sign but she's so scared it looks like she's wringing her hands."

"So the banshee is deaf. That's a first." Answered a young male nurse when Clint slapped him upside the head and said.

"You watch what you say mister. Or need you forget she's not the only one with hearing problems." He gestured to his own ears which held his hearing aids, so hearing this kid mock deaf people was an insult to him.

"Sorry sir." The kid spoke fearfully after seeing the death glare that he was being given.

"So what you're gonna try and talk to her?" asked Nat.

"If I can."

"Clint," Natasha started off. "That girl once almost brought down the Hydra base where we found her till that guy was almost dead. Who knows what she could do here, you sure you got this?"

"Yeah, it'll be fine. I know my way around kids." Natasha opened the door and allowed her best friend to enter inside while she kept the doctors back. She then hacked into the system and pulled up the video to see Clint slowly walking towards the cage.

The girl was just starting to wake up from her drugged sleep and when she saw Clint she panicked but due to the amount of gas she had been given, she was wobbly and groggy. Clint raised his hands up in surrender as he slowly set his bow and took off his quiver.

'It's okay. It's okay. I won't hurt you.' He signed to her in sign language. Seeing the hand motions from her blurry state, the girl was shocked that someone could finally speak her language after being abandoned by the Hydra scientists who left her there to rot since she couldn't pass her tests.

She wobbled up till she was on her hands and knees before leaning up against the glass just staring at Clint, not even trying to scream out her banshee scream. Her hands shook as she drowsily signed out.

'You.....speak like.....me?'

'Yeah. I can understand you kid. What's your name?' Clint signed as he sat down in front of the cage. The girl sat there for a few minutes till she finally signed out her whole name. '(Y/n)? Huh. That's a pretty name. My name's Clint. Clint Barton.'

'Where....am I?'

'Safe.' Clint signed out only.

'Why are all these people coming to see me? How can I be safe when they'll hurt me like the other doctors do?'

'Because unlike those other guys, they didn't have me. If I stay here with you, will you allow them to check you out. All they want to do is make sure you're okay and not hurt.' (y/n) remained still and didn't sign anything back, just stared right at Clint fearfully. 'I know you're scared, but I promise. I promise. I won't let anything happen to you.'

Clint placed his hand against the cage and just looked at (y/n) with soft assuring eyes, the only eyes he's ever reserved for his own son. Feeling like she could trust him, (y/n) slowly crawled across the cage until she sat right before Clint. The only thing separating them was a strong steel and bullet proof glass cage and the only thing she did to prove her trust was place her tiny hand over it, it barely reached over his palm and it was then Clint knew he had her trust.

Natasha who was watching the whole thing with a soft smile muttered to herself.

"That son of a bitch." The door soon opened and Clint stood there unharmed and still alive and he said.

"Alright, now I'm only gonna allow one doctor in there, cause if we overcrowd her then this whole mess starts all-over again." No one spoke up against Clint.

Clint then led in the chief doctor, Dr. Joseph Cardellini. The cage door open and (y/n) fearfully ducked down but Clint signed to her.

'It's okay (y/n), this is Dr. Cardellini. He's just going to check on you to make sure you're not injured.' As Dr. Cardellini set his case down, he proceeded to give her a checkup. He checked her reflexes, eyesight, until finally he needed a blood sample for the scientists to study it.

Seeing the needle made (y/n) almost scream. Her voice croaked, getting ready to let out her banshee scream when Clint quickly reacted and cupped her entire face into his hands and stroke down her madded hair trying to bring her back to earth.

After doing it several more times, (y/n) began to relax as she stared up at Clint and he signed out to her.

'It's okay. You can hold me hand as tight as you can. He won't inject you with anything, we're not gonna hurt you.'

'Promise?' she signed back fearfully.

'Promise.' He emphasized in his signing. He sat down close to her and took her hand in his and he turned her face away from the doctor as he prepped her arm up for the blood sample. She felt the cold wipe on her arm before having it be tied up allowing a vein to appear so that the doctor could stick the needle in.

She felt the prick of the needle pierce her skin and almost let out a scream but Clint stroked her head once more and that seemed to calm her down. Once the doctor got what he needed, he bandaged up the spot of the injection and Clint signed to her.

'It's all over. You were so brave big girl. Good job sweetheart.' She then crawled herself up into Clint's lap and buried herself into his chest. He softly smiled and wrapped his arms around her stroking and rubbing her back comfortingly. As she looked up at him he signed to her, 'everything will be okay now (y/n), you're safe here. And I'm not gonna let anything happen to you again.'

'Promise?' she asked in signing.

'I swear to you, scouts honor.' And he kept that promise in the years to come. He stood by her side through every test, every training session and made sure that no one gave her a hard time as he watched her like a hawk watching over its young.
