chapter 001 !
"THE GIG"
sage's point of view!

The sound of my phone's ringtone ripped through the silent air, jolting me awake almost immediately. A groan left my lips as I rolled over, reaching my arm across my bed, and to my bedside table. Without even opening my eyes, I grasped the device and put it up to my ear. The ringing continued and I huffed, realizing I hadn't even accepted the call, yet. At, what seemed like, the last minute, I peeled my tired eyes open and pressed the 'answer' button before moving it back against my ear.

"Hello?" I answered, my voice still groggy with sleep still laced in it. I rubbed my eyes with the palm of my free hand as I semi-listened to the voice on the other end of the phone call.

"Is this Sage Anderson?" The professional-sounding voice asked, and I hummed in response. "This is Veronica Blanchard, recruiting manager for the Netflix Original, Outer Banks. We have been meaning to get in touch with you, regarding a position as a full-time photographer, on set."

I dropped my phone onto the comfort of my green duvet, my hazel eyes widening in complete shock at the information I had just received. After realizing the phone call was still ongoing, I scrambled to pick my phone back up, cursing under my breath.

"Miss Anderson, are y—" I cut her off, almost immediately.

"Yes! Sorry, this was a complete surprise. How did you receive my information?" I questioned, climbing out of my bed as I started, quickly, making my way downstairs where I saw my roommates in the living room of our shared apartment. They looked at me with questioning glances and I held up a finger, signaling to them that I would tell them in a moment.

I have been in between jobs for almost a month now because I have been helping my sister take care of my mother, who has been diagnosed with the auto-immune disease, lupus. I had moved back to Charleston, from New York, due to her diagnosis. After I had moved out, my mom and my little sister downgraded houses, in order to keep up with medical expenses. When I moved home, about a month ago, my best friends basically forced me to move in with them— claiming I could start helping with rent as soon as I was back on my feet, with a new job. With most of my time going into helping my mom, I hadn't had much time to find a new job. I had been waiting for an opportunity like this one.

"Nalani Monroe, our directors assistant and photographer. We have been on the hunt for another photographer, and she showed us some of your public work." Veronica explained and I furrowed my eyebrows at the familiar name I hadn't heard in years. "You can take some time to think this over, but we start filming season three in a week, so we need an answer as soon as you can give one."
