Open Heart Short Stories: (Ethan and MC)

Game Night!

Kiara (MC) Pov:

It's about 7:40 p.m. and I'm just wrapping up all my paperwork for the day. I've already said my goodbyes to Harper and Tobias for the night.

I love my job, but it can be pretty tiring. But then again, that can be with any job when you think about it.

Whenever I finish my charts, I usually hum to a song I like to listen to... But this time, since nobody was around me, I thought of fully singing instead.

I think of a song that I like... All of Me, by John Legend... Or maybe even Dynasty, by MIIA.

But there was one song I was humming on my way to a patient's room that I thought of... I Want It That Way, by the Backstreet Boys.

The songs that I listen to seem to be more popular than when they were made. I mean, old habits die hard right?

I begin to sing the first verse, "You are, my fire... The one desire, believe when I say... I Want It That Way." I used to get compliments as I sung a song, especially back in High School. But even though I love singing, I never sing by myself. And if I do, loud music will be playing to drown my own voice out. Since I had NO voice cracks... I continued.

"But we are two worlds apart, can't reach to your heart. When you say, that I Want It That Way." Whenever I sing something, I always try to make it sound unique or different from other people who sing it. But even though I don't sing much, I still remembered how to control my tone, breath, and voice.

"Tell me why. Ain't nothin but a heartache. Tell me why. Ain't nothing but a mistake. Tell me why. I never wanna hear you say... I Want It That Way."

I begin to stand out of the chair, when just then I heard a soft chuckle.

It was Ethan Ramsey, the very man whom i'm deeply in love with. He was standing in the room near the door, smiling at me. Which could only mean one thing.... He heard me sing!

Ethan Ramsay POV:

She saw me standing near the door. Arms crossed, smiling, and leaned on the framed doorway. I couldn't help but smile at her singing voice. To be honest, i've never heard her sing at all.

Kiara is a open book and rarely keeps things to only herself, but everyone has secrets. But since we're now dating and living together, I thought to open up to her, and only her.

I say in a soft tone "I never knew you could sing that well." She looks at me, still in shock.

"T-thanks... Ready to go?" She starts putting some files and papers up as she talks to me. "I'm ready when you are." Soon enough we leave out the hospital hand in hand.

The drive was quiet, but it wasn't too awkward... At least for me... I make a turn, and she finally says sometuing, breaking the silence.

"How was your day?" She says with a gentle smile, clearly trying to hide her embarrassment. I glanced at her and smiled back."It was fine. Nothing out of  the ordinary. What about yours?" She turns away from me to look out the window, and stops smiling. "It was alright." We arrived at some arcade that Kiara forced me into.

I haven't been to one ever since High School... So, things might have changed, and maybe things haven't. Whatever it was, I was hopeful and grateful having her by my side.

Kiara's (MC) POV:

Me and Ethan get out of the car and walk towards the arcade. It was an arcade that me and my friends have been wanting to visit, but I wanted to take Ethan with me. This wasn't just a regular arcade. It was for both kids and adults. It was basically like a Dave and Busters, which i'm sure that Ethan has never been to.
