The initials 'CH' were carved roughly into the loose plank of oak wood.
"Could this be who murdered Avery?" I thought to myself. Detective Oscar Lawson studied the initials, gently gliding his hand over the marks, now engraved in the shop's storefront.
"We need to check the security cameras," Lawson exclaimed.
"Okay, good idea!" I replied, questioning if this alleyway even had security cameras installed.
We were all alone, venturing into this almost abandoned alleyway, adorned with corner shops and an old motel, that seemed to still be in use. The lights of the store next to us, labelled '2733', suddenly flickered on. This caught the both of us by surprise, as I tensed up, Lawson turned towards the door in caution and then continued towards the door.
"I don't think this is a good idea," I murmured as my fingers went numb in fright.
"I'm a detective, I know what I'm doing," Lawson whispered confidently.
I felt slightly reassured by Lawson's words, but I knew I must continue on after him If I was ever going to find out who murdered my best friend.
