“Are you going to call her or not?”

Marco glances sideways through his shoulder at Marcel, who is sat next to him on the sofa. “Prying much?” he says.

“Mate, you’ve been watching your phone for the last ten minutes. Just fucking call her,” Marcel replies, sounding impatient. They’re watching The Walking Dead at Marco’s place, but Marco’s mind has been too occupied to follow the story.

“She might still be working.”

“Then go see her in McPaper. Buy some pencils. Or Christmas stickers—just do something.” Marcel has stopped watching the show and is now looking at Marco.

“Stickers?” Marco furrows his brows.

“They’re good to have. Well, do something; it’s better than sitting here, looking at your damn phone.”

He’s right. Fine, Marco will do that. But he’s not going to use stickers as an excuse—fuck, no. Well, he can say he’s looking for… crayons… for Nico. Yeah, perfect. “Catch you later, then,” he tells Marcel, rising from the sofa.

“You like her.” It’s not a question.

Marco stops in his tracks, meeting his friends’ eyes. “I think I do.” It’s weird how he can’t stop thinking about a girl he just met twice. But, she’s interesting, and sweet. And different, and funny, too. He likes being with her. It’s not something he would normally feel about a stranger, but he can’t deny that he likes Sara-Maria.

It has been four days after he got her a new phone. He wants to see her again. So far he hasn’t called or texted her. He isn’t sure why himself. Maybe because he doesn’t want to overwhelm her? He has no idea; this is all new for him.

“What if she has a boyfriend?” Marcel asks. One thing that Marco has tried not to think about. It’s probably another reason why he hasn’t called her; because he’s slightly afraid of the answer.

But yeah, what if she does?

“I don’t know,” Marco replies truthfully.

Marcel looks at him and then says, “Fingers crossed that she doesn’t.”

“Thanks.”

“And don’t forget the Christmas stickers. Two, cause I think Robin will want one.”

Marco rolls his eyes as he takes his coat from the coat rack.

Sara-Maria is checking an order number when she hears her colleague Emily whisper to her, “Oh God, see who just walks in!”

“Who?” she asks absently. She needs to get all these orders done today.

“It’s Marco Reus.”

Sara-Maria drops the paper she is holding on the counter table. Goodness. She quickly picks it up again. When she looks up, she sees Marco, who is looking at her. “Hey,” he says softly, with a smile that makes her feel something fluttery on her stomach. Gosh, he needs to stop doing that.

“…Hello,” she replies. So, Emily was right. It’s really him.

“I’m looking for crayons, for my nephew,” he explains.

“They’re over there,” Sara-Maria says, pointing at the shelf in the right corner.

He nods. “I’m going to take a look.”

“Sure.”

After he’s pretty much out of earshot, Emily hisses at her, “You know him?”

Sara Maria feels a little guilty for not telling her. But it still feels surreal—even for herself. To be honest she doesn’t expect to see him again this quick. He did ask for her number, yeah, but maybe it doesn’t mean anything. It’s not that she has waited for him to call her…  Well, okay, she sort of did. But he didn’t call, and it’s like a reminder of who he is—and who she is. “Kind of. I met him last week.”
