The reason this story is rated mature is because I believe to to be NA (new adult).
It features physical, mental, and societal abuse.
If you do decide to read, i am going to do my best to put trigger warnings with each chapter that I believe could trigger someone.
Of course I understand if you cannot read this book so to some of the darker themes. If you enjoy period pieces, I do have a duology with a companion novel called THE SECOND QUEEN that is more YA and does not have these more adult themes.
