Shelby pov

"Good morning mama, good morning daddy" I spoke walking down stairs

"You seem very happy this morning" my mom said

"What got you smiling so hard?" My dad asked

"Nothing, just seen my project grade for history, I made an A" I spoke

"That good baby" my mom spoke

"Yeah good job" my dad spoke

"So what's for breakfast?" I asked

"Eggs and grits" my mom responded

"So Shelby have you thought about what you're going to do for prom? My dad asked

"No, why?" I asked sitting down at the chair at the island

"Because I know you and Andrew broke up, but that doesn't mean you got to miss out on prom, there is this nice boy from church that I think you should go with" he spoke

"I was thinking of going with my friends since they don't have dates neither" I responded

"None sense, for your senior prom you should have a date" he replied

I looked at my mom for her to say anything to take my side

"Honey don't you think the point of a senior prom is to have fun, it would probably be the last time she see most of her classmates, I think she should enjoy her time there" my mom said

"She could still have fun with a date" he responded

"Don't you think that should be her decision?" My mom asked

"Sweetheart don't you think a date is a good idea?" My dad asked with his attention on me

I shrugged "I was planning on going with friends" I answered

"So you think it's a good idea to go to the prom with a bunch of girls rather then going with a good Christian guy?" He asked raising an eyebrow

"Dave" my mom spoke

"No mom, dads right, maybe I could use a date" I said trying to smile

"That's the spirit baby, I'm sure you'll have fun" he said

"Yeah, after breakfast can I go to Martha's house?" I asked

"I haven't had the chance to meet Martha yet" my dad said

"I know, I will try to get her to come for Sunday dinner" I responded

"That's good, and you should bring Toni again, she left early Sunday, I wasn't finished getting to know her" he spoke

"Daddy I don't know if that's a good idea" I said

"Why wouldn't it be?" He asked

"Because last time you said something to offend her" I responded

"What did I say to offend her?" He asked raising an eyebrow

"She just not use to that talk about conversion camps and all" I spoke

"Why would that offend her?" He asked making that face the one he made when I told him 'I'm not like that' and the one when I told 'I don't want to do pageants'

I just stared at him because if I told him the real reason he would suspect something and keep me, Mel, and Spence away from her
