[ chapter 1 ]

- during the events of siege and storm –

we sat around the table while Vasily was telling us about the fjerdan alliances he achieved when Nikolai realized he stepped into a trap. They were arguing about the thing, and I squeezed Nikolai's hand under the table to calm him down. But it was too late.

The nichevo'ya came bursting in. in the madness of the situation I was frightened to realize- I lost him. When I couldn't find him, I decided to follow Alina.

We were running outside when I spotted him trying to get his family to the Kingfisher. He saw me as well and came rushing towards me.

"Y/n" he cried out." come let's get to the Kingfisher and out of here."

"Nikolai... I-I can't leave the other Grisha I'm gonna stay and fight"

"Then I'm staying too."

"No, you can't "I said with tears in my eyes "get your family to safety"

I could see he didn't want to leave. Tears started to well up in his eyes. He glanced back to the kingfisher

"Fine." He said and his voice cracked. "But I'm coming back for you. For all of you."

I smiled at him sadly and nodded tears rolling down my cheeks. "I'm coming back for you" he said again crying "I promise."

He looked deep into my eyes. And kissed me, like it was the last thing he would ever do. I put my arms around him and deepened the kiss.

We broke apart and he rested his forehead on mine.

"I love you"

"I love you too Nikolai... now go" I said through tears. I let him walk away and I ran to fight amongst the others.
