They ask, are you happy?
I say as happy as I can be,
But on the inside, I am drowning.
I can see the dark thoughts that are swallowing me whole.
I can't breathe, but I am fighting for each breath.
To a stranger, they would say suck it up and deal with it.
So that's what I am doing now.
I am fighting for more and more breaths.
And I can finally breathe in the fresh,
Cold, salty air as it hits my face.
I look at my old self that was in the deep dark blue waters of my mind
And think, I can now be free of the weight drowning me.
To be happy is a blessing because not everyone is happy,
But how do we know who is silently, slowly drowning in their thoughts?
We don't.
All we can do is if they say, they are as happy as they can be,
That is really their voices echoing saying please save me.
Each person is different, they can wear their hearts on their sleeves
Or that it's been hidden so far away that it's
hard to see.
When you are truly happy, nothing is a weight holding you down anymore.
In fact, you are free as you can be.
You are free as the bird soaring over the cliff that dives down to hit the ocean's wave, but
Can I ask?
Are you happy?

PoetryThis is going to be based on some of the poems I have written in a time where I didn't think anything would make me feel better, but writing it down did and some are just of random thoughts. Hopefully I will have a new poem every Wednesday!
