The soft pitter-patter of rain echoed through the void and eerie room. Flowers that were once a beautiful shade of violet dangled lifelessly in a gray mess on the old cherry oak nightstand. Everything is quiet, so utterly quiet. So quiet you could hear my heart slowly beat a steady pace like a soft song. The song of love and loss erupted from my heavy chest and filled the dusty air. I lay in bed looking up at the chipping ceiling. A small but rather peculiar crack was printed upon it.

Has it always been there?

Who knows how much things changed in a span of a few days of silent and cold isolation. My room was once a vibrant and spectacular place full of wonder and amazement, but now, it's like a different reality. Everything seemed to have lost it's form, and seemed to have changed. I was no longer full of joy, no. Instead I was a gloomy wreck along with the terribly gray room that swallowed me up. I've been lying here for days, yet I never understood how lifeless things could get when one loses something so dear to them. My breathing steady, my hands folded on my stomach, staring up at the horribly ugly ceiling. I wait, and wait and wait. For what, I do not know. So I lay here and ponder why all this has happened, why I can't feel anything anymore.

I fling my legs off the slumped and deflated bed. Sighing, I looked around. The walls seemed to have faded as well, the wallpaper ripping at the top and sagging down. The floor was dusty and creaky as I made my way to the door. The walk was like a never ending journey, an excruciatingly long and dreadful walk. The door knob was no longer a shiny gold but now a dull and limp thing sticking out of the door. I reached for it and yet I couldn't feel it. I tried again and again.

Nothing...

I truly have lost something dear and precious to me and just like that, I became as lifeless and void as the room around me.
