After school, Matthew had to exchange a few things at his locker. He loved the way it was decorated, with pictures of polar bears and wildlife pasted all over. He smiled, then remembered.

The school was sponsoring a trip to Canada, and he still needed fifty more dollars. So far, he had gathered his money through working on the neighbor's yards and housesitting. It earned him maybe 55 dollars on a good week. But he needed money now, because the slip needed to be turned in to the office by tomorrow.

He sighed and closed his locker, rushing outside to catch the bus, but never noticing that the new kid had been watching him the whole time.

The bus was like an overcrowded zoo, papers being thrown, people yelling, it was hell to Matthew. Alfred preferred sitting in the back with his friends, which left him all alone up front. But he liked it. Nobody ever sat next to him, so he got to sit near the window and daydream the entire time, blocking out the ruckus.

He thought about Matt, and how adorable he was. He wished he was brave enough to talk to him, if only he wasn't so meek.

The bus jolted to a stop, and a few kids stumbled out alongside Matthew. "Dude, what was the homework for lit? I wasn't paying attention," his brother said while he scuffled towards Matthew.

'What else is new,' He thought then replied, "Just to practice the vocabulary on pages 3-4."

"Oh, ok, so I just have math then!"
Matthew frowned at his lazy brother. At least he got something, he was the smart one.

They entered their house only to be greeted by the shrill screech of the smoke alarm. One of their fathers ran around waving a towel near the oven while the other sat with his palms buried in his face.

"Oh mon dieu, Arthur, how do you burn Mac and cheese?" Francis cried out.

"I don't bloody know!" Arthur yelled back, "Get off your arse and help me!"
Francis lifted his face a turned around to see alfred and Matthew standing just outside the door.

He motioned towards the windows as he grabbed a cloth. They understood immediately and opened up the kitchen windows. This was almost a daily occurrence at this house, and they had gotten used to it.

They finally got the alarm to quiet down and Arthur hung his head in shame. "How about your father cooks something for dinner.." He suggested, leaning his head against his french-man husband.

Alfred laughed. "Yeah, probably a good idea!" Matthew quietly started to sneak out of the conversation but his dad stalled him.

"Matheui," he asked,"Do yo have all the money needed for the Canada trip?"

"No, papa," he replied silently.

He could tell that they knew he really wanted that trip, because he had been working hard for it. Arthur looked at Francis with a slight frown.

"I can lend some money," Arthur said slowly, "As long as you promise to pay it back."

Matthew smiled gave him and Francis a huge hug, one of the biggest he had ever given. He clambered excitedly up to his room and opened his laptop. He had to tell his tumblr followers about this!

((Next time we see mattie, he'll be boarding his plane with other students!))
