But you had to keep on moving.

"Thanks for escorting me to his palace," you spoke as you sat on top of a white horse. Megumi held onto the leather strap that gave him control of the horse. As embarrassing as it was to admit, you never learned how to ride a horse—so megumi made sure to never let go of the strap so you wouldn't be put in danger. He brought the horse so you wouldn't have to walk the entire way; and when you offered to take turns with him or let him ride with you, he declined saying he needed the exercise.

Megumi stayed quiet as his grip on the leather strap tightened. You noticed that he was more quiet that usual and something must've been on his mind. "Hey, no need to be so down!" You leaned on the horse and stared at the boy. He closed is eyes as if wanting to block out your voice from his hearing. Clicking your tongue in annoyance, you sighed and decided to stay quite and look at your surroundings. Green pretty trees, blue skies, and yet on this beautiful day you were being offered to a man who'd probably do terrible things to you.

You found your eyes trailing over to Megumi once more; the memory of last night in your mind.

"I don't want to go," you mumbled out, the moon shining in the dark sky as you sat beside Megumi in the outside back of the shack. You and him both sat on the wooden ledge, the green grass moving softly due to the wind. The pond glimmered thanks to the stars and the moon—giving you a wonderful scenery.

Megumi turned to gaze at you, admiring how you looked under the moon's light. "I'll keep you safe if that's what you're worried about." He said and you have a weak smile and shook your head. "I'm being offered to him. So much could go wrong—no, will go wrong." It felt like your world was crashing before you. "Didn't you say you could protect yourself?" Megumi gave a small smile which warmed up your heart. Everything around you both seemed to be in slow motion as you smiled softly, moving closer to him and placing your head on his shoulder. He stiffened up: and you could've sworn you saw pink dusted on his pale face before he looked away. Ignoring it, you spoke:

"Yup~ I'm even stronger than you."

"Don't push your luck."

You chuckled and watched the moon with Megumi.

"We're here." He said as he turned to face you. In front of you were steps up the grassy mountain to Sukuna's palace. You got off the horse with a bit of a struggle; your feet finally hitting the soft grass below. The scenery was truly amazing up close—and looked something straight out of a painting. "He probably won't want you to accompany me," you say, frowning and ready to say goodbye. Megumi shook his head as he began to walk up the mountain steps. "Hey—Wait!" You say as you chased after him, "seriously, I don't want you to get hurt!"

"There's things you don't know." He spoke in a monotone voice as if to shut you up along with your worries. "What?" You questioned as your feet stopped moving: sure, it was normal for everyone to keep secrets—but it just made you realize how little you actually knew your friend. Shoot, you had to find out about his poor family and missing dad. He wasn't even going to tell you that either! But that's a story for another time.

Megumi kept moving without even giving you a glance, so with a hefty sigh you began to follow after him. Usually—the woman offered to sukuna would have to come to his palace with a treasure from her family, wine, and wear rich clothing with silk cloth.

Your father being the petty man he was simply said: "treasure? Tsk, you are the treasure!" So you'd have to find a way to deal with that later.

"Here goes nothin'...actually, no—here goes everything."

[behind the scenes!]

Your father began chopping up onions, celery, apples, and everything else you liked to munch on.

He swiftly moved in the kitchen, grabbing the chopped onions in his hand and throwing it into a pot of boiling water. A manly tear rolling down his face as he then twirled towards the eggs on the wooden counter. He cracked them open and began to sizzle the food on a hot pan. Adding seasoning, he smiled at his work.

He crossed his arms—proud—and imagining your happy face when you take it from him and thank him.

"Hey father-"

"EeeH!" The old man cried out like a little girl who was spooked by a ghost. Ryou stared at his father as seconds seemed to pass by. Swiftly the father leaned against the kitchen with his head down and arms crossed, "yes, my son?"

"I wonder if it's too late to be adopted," Ryou mumbled as he walked away; leaving your father to sit there and regret his life choices.
