Beads of sweat formed on my forehead while I was gasping for breath. Running, like it was the only way to protect me from the evils of this world, to protect my life. I ran into the darkness of blue. The brimming water was choking me to death as the air was flushed out of my lungs, all my senses being clouded by blue.
The desperate need to live, to inhale once more, one last time before everything turns black was pulling me out to the surface. The only noise that could be heard was of water splashing as my death marched towards me, a triumph march. As their voices grew louder a shrill noise rolled down my tongue bringing me back to life.
The chirping of the birds and the golden tinge of warmth peeping through the black dull curtains of my big room announced yet another day. 21 years; it has been 21 years since the same dream has been repeating like a plague. It has been 21 years and yet it feels so real, so new.
I sheepishly walked out of the room slipping in my slippers and making a failed attempt to comb my disheveled hair as my fingers ran through them. I made my way towards the kitchen to grab myself a glass of water. Water, as if my life depended on it and the same was killing me a few minutes ago.
"Good morning maa!"
The sweet voice greeted me like always as she placed a morning kiss on my forehead.
"The same dream maa? Why don't you try discussing it with someone?"
Her routine question with worry layered in those crystal blue eyes. The eyes which once made me forget everything that I owned. Those very eyes were the best thing that ever happened to me. And now these captivating eyes have turned out to be my biggest nightmare.
'Regret, they say is something one should never live with. It weighs too much for your fragile body to carry. With every passing day, its weight only grows.'
And true to its word with every passing day the fear only increases as it haunts me in my nightmares. It was this regret something I never wanted these blue eyes to find out.
