"You know the bouncer, Hermione?" Luna asked with a curious look.
I could feel my cheeks start to redden as a spluttered to answer. "Oh, uh Phil? yeah, uhh not sure where I met him exactly" I mumbled, shooting a panicked look to Angelina who quickly came to my rescue.
"Enough about the bouncer, let's get some drinks!" She yelled, leading everyone towards the bar. I let out a small breath of relief when Ginny followed, seeming to be well distracted for the time being. We all gathered around a high top table and order a round. I got lost in talking with them, gossiping about old classmates and boys and laughing when Ange would go into detail about something George did and Ginny would cover her ears and sing to block it out. We were well into our third round of drinks when Ginny, Katie, and Luna left to go get the next round.
Ange and Pansy sat there looking me over for a second and I started to chew on my lip nervously.
"What?" I asked nervously.
Pansy gave me a soft look and took my hand and I felt my resolve start to crumble a little. Pansy and I started hanging out when I first started dating Draco and we instantly became close. Her and Angelina were probably my closest and best friends at the moment, besides Ginny.
"What happened?" Pansy asked softly.
"What makes you think something happened?" I replied, not making eye contact with either of them.
"Give us a break, Hermione. We can tell when something going on with you. You aren't as good an actress as you think." Angelina said with a small smile.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I said, crossing my arms in a pout.
"Why wont you tell us?"
"I- I just-" I started, hoping an excuse would come to mind before a sighed. "I just didn't want to make tonight about me. It's your party Ange. Besides, I scheduled my wallowing to start tomorrow."
Pansy snorted. "Leave it to you to plan when to wallow." She said, rolling her eyes. I gave her a playful shove and laughed before looking at Ange, who was giving me a small smile.
"You're my best friend, Hermione. Whatever is going on with you is more important than a night out drinking." Angelina said, reaching across the table to squeeze my hand. "It can't be that bad, right? Did you and Draco get in a fight or something?"
I swallowed the lump in my throat. "Worse." I said quietly, looking down at my hands.
I could hear Pansy inhale sharply next to me. "You two didn't break up, did you? God what did the jackass do?" Her voice going sharp.
I looked up at them with watery eyes before I took a deep breath a straightened my spine. "Not exactly. According to him, we were never officially together so technically, you couldn't call it a break up."
"What the fuck does that mean?" Pansy asked, her voice rising. I smiled at her, grateful to have such a great friend who instantly gets angry on my behalf.
"From the beginning, please. I cannot deal with an angry Pans before we get the whole story." Ange said and Pansy stuck her tongue out at her.
"Well, I was over at his place this morning and Blaise showed up. He was trying to get Draco to go have a guys day or whatever and I said I had things to do anyways and needed to leave and Blaise said something like 'listen to your girlfriend' and he said 'she's not my girlfriend'." I started explaining.
"You're bloody joking. He did not say that." Ange said, surprise on her face.
"No, he did. Then we got into a huge fight, in front of Blaise, where Draco explained that we never talked about being exclusive or had the seeing other people talk so technically we weren't boyfriend and girlfriend."
