Chapter 16 | No more wishes for him

Start from the beginning

Joanne wasn't listening anymore though. She guessed she never thought of the possibility of Jim being Patricia's ex. Although it made sense now that she thought about. Cory was a fuckboy and it was only normal that his friends would be too. But Jim? He didn't look like it.

"As I said it's whatever. I'm over him now and he is too. I'm going to be better as a human being and he'll regret he ever dumped me." Patricia stared daggers at the pen she was holding. She acted like Jim was right in front of her and she would stab him any moment.

Joanne smiled. Looking at Patricia like this, she did seem a lot like Amanda except she was less rude, less annoying and more friendly. "Good luck."

Patricia grinned. "Thanks."

Joanne laid on her back. Her phone beeped and flashed lights into her face. Joanne grabbed it. Whoever made phones really went out of their way to make message notifications as annoying as possible.

Honey - Amanda

Not in the mood Amanda - Cory

Really? That's not what you were saying last night. In fact you were screaming the opposite. - Amanda

Why does this place get so lousy at night? - Jim

Middle finger Jim. - Amanda

Hey! Snow White is online - Jim

I've told you not to call me that. - Joanne

Whatever princess - Jim

Did you just 'princess' me - Joanne

I did. What do you wanna do about it? :) - Jim

It's evening not night Jim. But Snow White, that nickname is hella cute. - Jordan

Are you guys ganging up against a little poor lady? - Joanne

You're neither poor nor little Joanne. - Subomi

And you guys are annoying. - Joanne

They all sent laughing emojis. Joanne had to send one too. Their argument was pretty stupid and hilarious. Cory and Amanda were no longer sending messages. Fine with her. They would no longer suffocate her with their presence. At least she thought so.

Hey - Cory

Joanne gritted her teeth as she watched the message pop on her screen. She wasn't going to click it. She wasn't even going to reply him. Immediately, Joanne turned off notifications for Cory's messages. Whatever he wanted to say, he could say on the group chat.

I know you're mad at me and you have every reason to be but you know I still have one wish left, right? - C

Joanne froze. She had completely forgotten about the diary and wishes. She still wanted it back.

And what's that? - J

Errands. I want you to run errands for me this week. Getting coffee and maybe some other things. - C

After that we're done. No more wishes for you? - J

Yes. You'll get your diary back. - C

Good. - J

Night. - C

Joanne left the app after some minutes. She said goodbye to the rest of the squad first though. Talking to Cory always drained her for some reason. She tried to fall asleep but it was fruitless.

"Hey Joanne."

"Hmm."

Patricia switched off the lights. "Goodnight."

"Yeah, goodnight."

That night Joanne had the scariest of the nightmares she'd ever had. Instead of the beautiful girl she always saw in her dreams, the girl was Laura - her dead sister. Laura fell over the cliff because Joanne wasn't strong enough to hold onto her hand. And in the case of worse events because Joanne couldn't stop the car from killing her in the hit-and-run. Either ways the fact that Laura died was her fault.

Joanne bolted upright from beneath her blanket. She was sweating profusely now. She had been crying, screaming in her sleep. The urge to sleep wasn't as appealing to her anymore. And so she did nothing - she remained awake for the rest of night.

Around seven am Joanne received a message from Cory but didn't look at it until she had woken her roommate up.

When she eventually read the message, Joanne dressed up in a red-and-black checkard button up shirt and black denim jeans, paired with her beanie and some warm cozy boots. She headed for Starbucks.

Morning snow white. Today's order: Latte Macchiato, some whip cream and two chocolate flavoured doughnut. If you come across kiwi, buy some. Thanks. <3 - C
