"Thanks."
"You're welcome." Patricia continued pressing her phone and smiling at it simultaneously.
Joanne sat down near the leather bag and unknowingly she was staring at Patricia. She just found it odd that Patricia was not acting up. It was a rather strange thing to worry about but that wasn't the Patricia she knew. Maybe she had change during the holiday.
"What?"
"Hmm?" Joanne snapped back from her thoughts only to find Patricia looking at her with both brows knitted.
"You've been staring at me for the past five minutes." She gasped. "Oh my gosh! Is there something on me? "
Joanne chuckled. "No." She smiled. " Something just feels off."
"Tell me about it. Amanda Marino has been acting humble recently."
"What do you mean acting humble recently? We just resumed today." Joanne frowned.
"Ever heard of the app Instagram? Her posts starting from three days ago were either of her looking innocent or mumbling prayers. Just really innocenty things. No hanging out with Cory Williams or the squad."
"Wow." Joanne stammered. "Maybe she's changed?"
"Hmm, definitely not. She's prolly up to something."
Joanne and Patricia both stared at each other. Patricia feared things were off to a lifeless and spiceless semester. For her nothing could be worse than that. Joanne on the other hand was happy beyond imagination. The exact dramaless semester she wanted was unfolding right in front of her. It would be nice to hang onto it as much as possible.
"Our first class is starting in the next fifteen minutes. I'd advise you leave unpacking for later, we have a long day ahead of us." Patricia fixed her earrings up while looking at her reflection.
Joanne groaned as she dropped on the bed. "Oh come on. We just resumed and we have classes immediately? Way to care for your student mental health."
Patricia laughed. "Hell as if I can ever pinpoint what is wrong with this school."
Joanne looked at her bag. Eagerly but slowly, she pulled out a pair of mom jeans. The one she had worn days before. Joanne substituted it for her sweatpants and wore some warm nice sneakers. Along with her backpack containing a headphone, phone and laptop.
"Love the new look." Patricia gave Joanne a warm smile.
Joanne blushed. "Oh this, I've been trying new things that's all."
Patricia nodded and went to join her clique. Joanne breathed in and walked briskly into the classroom. She was five minutes early so there was time to set up her things and prepare for the class. Their English project presentation. Subomi sat next to her and waved.
"H-hi." Joanne said startled. "Where are the rest?" She looked around for Jim, Jordan, Cory and possibly Amanda.
"They're not here yet. Jim and Jordan are though."
"Okay." Joanne gazed intensely at her notebook even though it was blank. She hoped Subomi would leave her alone on seeing this.
Please go away, Joanne prayed silently.
"You can sit with us if you like." Subomi said when he saw no one else seated beside Joanne.
"No it's okay." Joanne faked a smile.
"Come on. I was told to bring you."
Subomi was now dragging Joanne to their gang seat at the back. Joanne shuffled her feet and her gaze fell on the ground. She couldn't look at their faces for some reason.
