Banishment - Newt

Start from the beginning

I pulled my eyes away and felt a hand wrap around mine by my side. I looked down at the hand and saw that it was Newt’s.

“PLEASE (Y/N)!”

I laid my head on Newt’s chest as I began to hear the sound of the maze doors closing. I didn’t move away from Newt until I heard the doors shut. Everything went silent, and I mean everything. The entire Glade went dead.

After a few moments I untangled myself from Newt. I didn’t say a word to him, didn’t make any eye contact. There wasn’t anything I could say to get him to understand how I was feeling. I just headed in the direction of my hut that Gally helped me make when we got to the godforsaken place.

I sat on my bed until there there was no light left in the sky. The only light in the room was coming from the couple of mason jar candles hung up in the room, and sitting on the window sill. The breeze coming from the window dried the tears that were coming down my face, making it look like I had stopped crying. I could feel the sticky tears still sitting on my face. I tried my hardest to wipe the trail of tears from my cheeks as I heard a faint knock on the bamboo door. It slowly opened and Newt popped his head inside.

“Hey.” He said quietly.

“Hey.” I said, trying to hold back my tears.

“Can I come in?” He asked. I nodded, scared to answer him just in case I did cry again.

He slowly came inside and closed the door behind him. He looked around at my room while looking a little confused.

“This looks different from how it did a month ago. You cleaned it up a bit?” He asked. My room wasn’t messy, there was just a lot of parts of it that were unfinished.

“Kyle helped me fix it up. He said that since I was the only girl here I deserved a nice place to have my privacy.” I said, letting a couple tears run down my cheeks as I looked over at the window sill where the white curtains were moving from the breeze outside.

“Well he was right. And he did a bloody good job too.” Newt said, walking over to my bed and sitting at the end of it. “I was wondering why he gave me curtains on the list of supplies for the box.” That comment made me laugh a little bit.

“I’m going to miss him so much.” I said quietly.

“Me too.” He said, looking at me. “I’m sorry (y/n), I know he meant a lot to you.”

“I just can’t believe that he’s gone. I feel like all of this is my fault.” I said, looking down at my lap.

“No no no, none of this is your fault.”

“If I hadn’t been wandering around the Glade than he never would have attacked me.” Thinking about it made me even more upset.

“(Y/n) listen to me.” Newt began, scooting up closer to me on the bed and wiping the tears from my face. “None of this was your fault, understand?” I nodded. “What happened to Kyle happened because of something out there in the maze. If you weren’t there when he came charging into the Glade, he would’ve attacked someone else entirely.”

“But he attacked me. He screamed my name Newt!” I cried and wrapped my arms around him. I pushed Newt back a bit when I went into hug him. I really needed to hold onto someone and Newt was everything to me. We’ve been stuck together like glue from the day we got brought up to the Glade. It wasn’t until a month later Kyle was brought up from the box. Since then the three of us have been inseparable.

“I know, and I’m glad you’re okay.” He said, holding onto me tighter. “If he had killed you I don’t know what I would’ve done, you mean the world to me (y/n).” I pulled back and looked at him. “Sorry – was that a bad time to say that?”
