This story is set in the 1860s, and I have endeavored to be true to that time period. As such, there will be outdated and offensive ideas about the following:
Race, with the inclusion of offensive slurs.
Women, with mentions of violence perpetrated upon them.
Mental illness, with mentions of the horrific 'treatment' patients underwent at this time.
Sexual Orientation.
Classism.
There will also be occasional graphic descriptions of violence, as this story takes place during the U.S. Civil War. These elements mentioned above are not gratuitous or done for shock value or unnecessary drama. I have done my best to create a realistic portrayal of this era and accordingly, the characters will range from highly offensive to progressive. Please keep in mind that 1860s progressive ideals still far short of our modern bar for such a label.
