It was an early morning; an alarm clock went off. Skylar groaned softly, hit snooze and sat up. Her mane of black hair was in tangled knots surrounding her pale and slim face. "Do I really need to go to school today?" She asked herself, turning off the alarm once more. She slid off the bed, her boney feet hitting the cold hardwood floor. Skylar stood slowly and walked over to her mirror, grabbing her hair brush to tame her hair.
After a good fifteen minutes of trying to get the knots out, her hair was mostly flat. She slipped on her Peter Pan shirt, a pair of black skinny jeans which weren't so skinny on Skylar, and a pair of dark purple converse. To cover up the mess of hair, she just threw on a maroon beanie. "Good enough." Skylar just sighed. She was very skinny so she liked to wear baggy clothes to cover up how skinny she truly was. "Sky! Come get your breakfast before it gets cold!" Her mom shouted up the stairs. Skylar sighed and rolled her eyes. She barely ate anyways, and she didn't want whatever creation her mom was trying out from her new diet cookbook. Skylar slowly trudged down the stairs to the kitchen, the smell of fruit, protein powder and the waffle maker burning hitting her dead on. "Geez mom, what died?" Her mom huffed. "Nothing died. It's a waffle with sliced fruit and protein supplement. You need some meat on you." "Mom I'm fine." Skylar argued. "I'm going to school. I'll see you tonight." She waved and slunk out of the house before her mom could say anything else.
Skylar arrived at school with about an hour to spare. Which even then was barely enough time for her best friend Kayla to talk about another boy drama she had created. There was a tap on her shoulder and Skylar turned around to see Kayla, a short and slightly chubby redhead who was very sassy. "Hey Skylar!" Kayla chirped happily. "Hey Kay. Any new boy drama?" She joked slightly. "Oh my gosh you know it! You need to sit down for this." "You say that every time Kayla." Skylar laughed softly. "I know I know. So anyways. You remember Josh? The tall one with glasses?" Skylar nodded, "The one who sits next to you in Chemistry?" Kayla nodded; her red pigtails bounced. "That one. So he called me last night and-" Skylar had spaced out at this point, but would nod and make appropriate facial expressions to what her friend was saying. Not long into Kayla's rant, Skylar had made it to her homeroom. "Hey Kayla, I hate to interrupt you but we can continue this later. I'm at homeroom." She said with a cheesy, apologetic smile. "OK! See you later!" And with that, the sassy redhead bounded away to her large group of friends.
The taller raven-haired girl slunk into the art room and sat at her stool in the back. "Finally, some quiet..." She sighed contently and pulled out her sketch book. She had begun a sketch of her childhood obsession, Peter Pan. In the drawing, Skylar was with Peter on a tall building and they were looking out on the city. "Hey freak. Are you still obsessing over a baby movie character?" Nichole, the school bitch, was in the same home room as Skylar. Her large breasts and skinny waist were enough to make any man swoon and her long, brown hair sat perfectly at her mid back and framed her soft ivory skin toned face like she was out of a movie. "What do you want Nichole?" Skylar sighed and continued to draw. "I don't want anything." She said with a smirk and stopped right next to Sky. "These are nice pencils. It would be a shame if..." Nichole paused and picked them up, and snapped them in half, "they broke." Skylar looked up at her and held her broken pencils, trying to not let Nichole see her watering eyes. "Oh, did the baby get sad?" She said in a fake pouty voice. "Go cry to mommy about how her pencils broke." Nichole laughed and walked to her seat in the front.
Homeroom for Skylar seemed to last forever and the bell finally rang. She had already packed up and ran out of the room, in hopes to avoid Nichole. In her rush to get out of the room she had bumped into Kayla. "Hey Skylar, are you ok?" She asked. Skylar just nodded, "Yeah I'm fine. I'll see you at lunch." Skylar pulled her beanie down more over her head, a failed attempt to hide. Kayla just rolled her eyes and kept walking, "Weirdo."
The entire rest of the day, Skylar was slinking in the back row of all her classes. 'This day cannot be slower...' She thought to herself. Lunch finally came around after what felt like eternity, and like usual, Kayla was sitting with her large group of friends, leaving Skylar alone. She sat in the corner of the breezeway, looking out the window and nibbled on her sandwich. Not hungry, like usual, she put her lunch away and sighed. "I wonder if I can fly from this ledge. Just jump off and fly away." Skylar just smiled a bit at that thought. "If only that were possible. Become a Wendy and fly with Peter." She grew sad, knowing it would never happen. Skylar was interrupted by the bell and she huffed, heading off to her last few periods of the day. "Skylar! Hey!" A voice called after her. The lanky teen turned around and saw Kayla running towards her. "So, Nichole said you were being a bitch to her?" Kayla asked. Skylar raised an eyebrow. "She said... what?" Kayla huffed. "She said you broke her pencils in homeroom." Skylar scoffed. "What the hell? No, Kayla. She broke my expensive sketch pencils." The redhead raised a brow. "Nichole showed me her pencils though." Skylar just rolled her eyes and opened her bag, digging for her pencils. "What the fuck? Where are they?" She muttered to herself and Kayla gave Skylar a strange look. "She stole my pencils!" Skylar shouted. "Calm down Sky. And why do you think she stole your dumb pencils?" Kayla asked, and began to pick at her nails boredly. "So, she could pull this shit." Skylar whined. "My dad got me those before he left." Kayla just sighed. "You are over reacting. I'll see you later." Skylar had a defeated look and felt her heart break. "How can she take Nichole's side?" She asked herself, then walked to her last class of the day.
Back at home, Skylar threw her bag on the hook by the door. "Mom! I'm home!" She called out, only to get no response. "She's usually home by now..." Skylar walked into the kitchen and saw a note on the fridge. She pulled it off and bit her lip slightly. "Working overnight at the hospital. Be home tomorrow night. Love, mom." Skylar sighed deeply. "And another late night. That is the third one this week..." She walked into the living room and flopped onto the couch sadly. "I think she doesn't like being around me anymore. Even dad said I was a mistake. That's why he left." The memories of the divorce began to flood her head, giving her an amalgamation of emotions and the tears began to fall before she even realized it. "Damn it..." She mumbled and wiped away the tears that were running hot and fast down her cheeks.
