《Eighth encounter》

Start from the beginning

I tried to reassure my heart by telling myself he had been living here for years, he wouldn't lose his way, except if he's kidnapped, a small voice in the back of my mind suggested.

Shaking the thought away, I glanced on my phone, but of course, as expected, I had zero messages; in the past, the only ones who messaged me were Zhouxuan and Zanjin, but we parted our ways long ago; things had been changing.

Just as the world spun, so had our friendship, and now we were nothing more than strangers trying to avoid each other; I sighed, ruffling a frustrated hand through my hair as a wave of worry fell over me, I let myself tumble back on the couch, spreading my arms while closing my eyes.

The front door opened with a click as my eyes shot open and saw how Yibo walked in, his face unreadable as I stood up, but he simply walked past me as if I was air.

"Yibo," I murmured his name under my breath as he turned around, looking sharply at me before placing something on the kitchen counter, and as I slowly approached him, I saw it were some paper snippers.

All of them had the same handwriting I would recognize out of thousands as it was one I grew up with, familiar above anything as shivers send down my spine.

"How did you get these notes?" Yibo turned to me, passing me a glass of juice as he sat down, propping his arms up as he placed his chin on it.

"I received them." I held back the urge to roll my eyes as I sat down opposite of him, nodding, waiting for him to continue as he took a deep breath, opening a drawer and getting something out of it.

He placed three small bottles in front of me, all with a clear big X sign popping out of, as he waved his hands towards it, "these were the bottles I received together with the notes, someone has been barging into my house, he or she didn't steal anything though." My eyes widened at how calm he sounded, ad if it happened daily.

"Miss Chen left already?" I nodded, once again inspecting the notes; they were without doubt from the person I assumed they came from, but why would he?

Long ago, we made a promise to protect the good, whether it's the right thing to do or not; why did he break his promise?

Unconsciously I shook my head, only waking up from my daze when Yibo called out my name in a soft murmur, his eyes filled with slight worry as his hand was placed over mine.

I only caught his last few words, "you okay?" I didn't want to lie, so I shook my head, not responding, and neither did Yibo push me further as we sat in quietness.

"You know who wrote it, don't you?" I raised my head to look into Yibo's soft brown orbs that had something magical; it was as if I could see the galaxy and shining stars inside them.

"I suspect someone."

"But?" I couldn't help but give a weak smile at how good Yibo guessed I still hadn't finished my sentence, "but you don't need to be afraid; I don't think this person would try to harm you?" I sighed, feeling defeated as I couldn't even give Yibo assurance.

"It's okay; I can take care of myself." Yibo smiled brightly, showing his cute smile making his cheeks round; he was so cute.

I couldn't help but slightly pinch his cheeks, causing him to pout even cuter, "you're not planning to tell me who it is, will you?" I shook my head with a slight smile as Yibo once again pouted.

"But this kept between us Yibo, I think it's safer if you for, the meantime live somewhere else." He raised an eyebrow, shaking his head.

"I am planning to change the locks; no need to move as I have nowhere to go either, and I don't wanna burden my friends." I thought about it, his eye locked into mine, and the world slipped faster than my brain could register them.
