Meredith: According to Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, when we are dying or have suffered a catastrophic loss, we all move through five distinct stages of grief. We go into denial.

>>

Richard: "Push another amp of calcium."

>>

Meredith: Because the loss is so unthinkable we can't imagine it's true.

>>

Richard: "Clear!"

>>

Meredith: We become angry with everyone, angry with survivors, angry with ourselves, then we bargain.

>>

Derek: "Damn, O'Malley, come on. Live, just live. His I.C.P.'s 30."

Owen: "Push 70 of Mannitol, start bagging."

Derek: "He's hemorrahaging into his brain stem..."

Owen: "Is it too late for steroids?"

Derek: "He's herniating!"

>>

Meredith: We beg, we plead. We offer everything we have. We offer up our souls, in exchange forjust one more day.

>>

Shocking Izzie once more they release a breath of relief when her eyes flutter open

Richard: "Stevens! Can you hear me? Look at me, Stevens."

>>

Derek: "Damn it."

>>

Meredith: When the bargaining has failed, and the anger is too hard to maintain, we fall into depression, despair, until finally we have to accept that we have done everything we can. We let go. We let go and move into acceptance.

>>

Standing in the O.R. Derek slowly stops working as the machines continue to beep and a tense moment of silence passes through the room

Owen: "Anybody know if he's a donor?" he questions, making Callie begin hyperventilating and slowly back away from the table as tears stream down her face

Callie: "Oh, God!"

>>

Day 1

>>

Alex: "Whoa, whoa" he stops Izzie when she tries to take the tube out her mouth "She wants it out. Can we take it out?"

Cristina: "She's breathing over the vent."

Richard: "Alright, let's pull out the tube."

Meredith: "Dr. Bailey." she comes into the doorway with tears in her eyes

>>

Owen: "Slow down. It's ok, slow down." he calmly tells Callie as she struggles to breathe

Stepping into the room, Bailey and Richard look at Callie and Owen before turning their eyes over to where George is lying on the table and the nurses are looking down with a solemn look on their faces

Derek: "His ICP went through the roof. We did everything. Everything."

Owen: "Chief, his organs are viable for now, but it won't be long until he's acidotic and hypothermic. Is he a donor?" he asks, making Bailey's head shoot up to him
