TW: Cigarette Use
Karl POV
~•◇|-[0:01]------------------------------|◇•~
'I've met someone who makes me feel seasick...~'
I pull out one of my earphones and sit up from my bed, Kill The Director still being blasted in my ear. I'm exhausted, but I can't just stay in bed, as much as I want to. But I also want to make sure I don't worry anyone else. I've only been on a couple of time travels, and I'm still trying to figure out how to control it properly. The time period I aim for - whenever I'm randomly thrown into another time jump - is never the one I travel too, which is irritating to say the least, but I'll get there. I have to. For everyone. For them. How hard can it be?
I drag myself off of the bed and pull on my hoodie I had discarded on the floor. At least the soft material is comforting. It's such a miserable, gloomy day outside, but then again that doesn't really matter when I'm just going to be spending the day indoors. What time is it? ...2pm?! Yeah, I'll want to get downstairs before I raise any more concern.
I get downstairs and find two of my roommates - Quackity and Sapnap - playing a game of poker. It's nice to see them getting along well once in a while, despite their relationship they argue a lot.
" Well hey sleepy head, so you are alive. " Sapnap says dryly, throwing down his cards and handing Quackity his ten diamonds. We've both tried to best Quackity at gambling, unsuccessfully of course. I've decided it's best not to waste my money, Sapnap is still clearly trying to beat him.
" Mm just about. Where's Y/n? " I ask, before Quackity offers me a cigarette, which I do take. I've been taking them more and more recently. They help me relax sometimes, and since two of my roommates smoke, it was bound to catch on.
" Uh, I dunno. Given this weather, probably up in their room, " Sapnap shrugs. " Could you tell 'em to come down and eat? I haven't seen them all day either. " I nod to him and make my way back up the stairs. Sapnap and Quackity share the bigger room downstairs, Y/n and I have rooms opposite to eachother up here. I don't know why, but I just really want to talk to them right now. Kill The Director is still blasting on repeat in my left ear, but I'm in that kind of mood so I leave it be. I knock on their door in my usual rhythm and wait for a reply. Whilst I wait, I once again marvel at the art on their door sign with their name on. The patterning and symbols are beautiful.
" You can come in Karl! "
Only they would know it's me from the knock. I turn the doorknob and step through the door, closing it behind me again. Common decency, you know. They're sat on the floor with their back leant against the bed, doing what I'm not sure. It doesn't look like they're doing anything.
" So, wassup? " Y/n asks flippantly, sounding still half asleep. Relatable? Yes. They offer for me to sit next to them, and so I do as I offer them a puff from my cigarette. They wave me off, but allow me to smoke in here anyway. They may dislike my increasing smoking, but they see that it does help me sometimes, so they just monitor that I don't have them too often. We've always kind of made sure the other is taking care of themselves, though with recent stresses, it's been hard to check up on eachother all the time. Without them though, I know I'd be in a much worse state. How do I know that? I don't know. I just have that feeling.
" Eh, nothing much. Your brother wants you to go and get something to eat though, "
I've grown good at lying to others. That may sound bad, but it's okay if it's for they're own good, right? If it's to protect them? Yes of course it is. If anyone finds out, I know I'll just be a further burden for them. I just want to help everyone, so I'll keep it this way - keep hiding my secret. I've been successful so far. No one suspects a thing.
